Looking for info on the family of Mitchell Cota and wife Flavia. Mitchell has been mentioned as being born 1817 in Paris, France, but I think he was born in Paris, Canada. Anything you can tell me would very much be appreciated.

Hi Mindy: Re Edward Cota of Monkton, VT. would this be your Edward? Edward married Sept. 27, 1899 in Starksboro, VT. Lucy Maria Miles dau. of William Miles and Jane Edwin. Lucy born January 28, 1882 Williston, VT. Buried Monkton Boro Cemetery. How are you related? I married their grandson. How far back on the Cota side do you have info.?

Hi, I'm looking for the death date and place (probably Vermont) of Edward Cota also. I note that there are different inquiries about Edward Cota and there were several of them running around Quebec and New England about this time. My inquiry concerns Edward Cota who was born Edouard Cote in Quebec and married Josette St. Jacques. Almost, if not all, Cotas in New England were originally Cote (pronounced Cotay or Coty) from Quebec. My Edward died sometime between the 1870 and 1880 U.S. census. The Cotas who lived in California during that period were for the most part from Mexico (there were a few exceptions). To my knowledge the Mexican Cota family is not related to the Quebec/New England Cota family. All Cote/Cotas etc in New England come descend from the union of Jean Coste and Anne Martin to my knowledge. Thanks for any info.

Hi, my Edward Cota is definitely not your Edward Cota. His full name was Edward Carlos Cota born June 5, 1879 in Berlin City, Wisconsin. He died March 20, 1964 in Monkton, VT. and is buried in the Monkton Boro Cemetery with his wife Lucy Maria (Miles) Cota. Sorry I can't be of help.
