Sir Francis Cosbie was a General who died at age 70 in 1596. His first wife was Lady Mary Seymour, daughter of Sir Edward Seymour, Duke of Somerset & wife Lady Anne Stanhope (see Burke's). Sir Francis & Lady Mary had 3 sons before she died: Alexander, Henry & General Arnold Cosbie. Alexander married Dorcas Sydney & had 15 children: Francis, William, John, a stillborn, Richard, Anne, Humphrey, Rose, Elizabeth, Charles, Edith, another John, Mary, Arnold & Mabel. Charles is the one who immigrated to VA with wife Mary Loftus, daughter of Adam Loftus & Jane Purdon. Their son, John Cosby Sr., married Sarah Garland, daughter of Peter "the Mariner" Garland, & wife Elizabeth. John Sr & Sarah had 9 children: Charles, Mary, James, John Jr., Margaret, Philip, Sarah, Anne, & David. John Jr. married his first cousin, Martha Garland, daughter of Edward Garland & his wife Martha Hensley. John Jr & Martha had 8 children: William, John, Mary, Amelia, Griffith, James, Sarah "Anna", & Elizabeth. Sarah "Anna" Cosby (b. 1720) married Griffith Dickerson & had 9 children: Susannah "Lucy", who m. Matthew Cox, Jr. (my line), Sarah Anne, Griffith Jr., Charles Peter, Hickerson Cosby, Robert, James, Mary & Frances. This is how the Dickerson's connect to the Cosby's.
