I am trying to find the parents of Gabriel Cosand, born 1732 in Perquimans Co., NC. Md Abigail Albertson 1755. Gabriel died 1810 in Perquimans Co., NC. Who are his parents and siblings?

To Donna Burkett. According to my records Gabriel Cosand was born in England in 1732 and Married Abigail Albertson in Pasquotank Col,NC and died 10/03/1810, in Suttons Creek, N.C. His father was Emanuel Cosand who was married to Katherine Anderson. I believe that he came to England from Holland, but the family was originally from Switzerland, and was originally either Cosandey or Cosandier. There are still many people living in Fribourg, Switzerland with this name.

I have several Cosand names in my list. Gabriel is one of them. I have a journal written by Jordon Evans around 1855 to 1865. Jordon Evans wrote "Margaret come home to her Father and her Mother to be safe. Jesa (Jesse) Cosand the son of Margaret and Gabe Cosand was born Jan. 23rd 1857. Margaret Evans was the daughter of Jordon and Elizabeth Perry. Margaret was born Jan. 23, 1841.Margaret had another child Julia Ann born Feb. 11th, 1863." These people were in NC until April 19th, 1843 and arrived in Virginia May 7, 1843.In the 1850 US Census it shows Jordon Evans in Virginia,Mecklenburg Co,which is in south central Virginia, right on the NC boarder. Gabe and Margaret's son, Jesse Freemont Cosand was born in Indiana, he was married in 1880,81, and died in New Philadelphia, Ohio in 1953. His first wife was Sara Detrich. Their son, Omer Neal Cosand was my grandfather. He was born Sept. 15, 1884 in Charleston, Coles Co, Ill. He was married in 1905 to Mary Ellen Adtkins in Hartford, Sebastion Co, AK. He had 3 children Jesse, Neal, and Bernice Cosand. He died Aug. 3,1938 in Midvale, Tuscarawas Co. Ohio.I can not find Gabriel Cosand any place in my searches. He seems to have dissapeared after he brought Margaret home to her parents. Was he in the Cival War? I have checked as many records on the Cival War as I could find. Also, I do not know who Gabriel's parents were. Any information on this line of Cosands would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share all of my information with anyone it will help.

To those of you who saw my message on the board, unfortunately I am currently out of the country and do not have access to my Family records. I should return to New York, my home, in about a week and should be able to respond at that time. Thanks!!

I received your message while I was out of the country and unable to get to my records. I returned last evening and have only found two Charles Cosands. All are from Indiana. One was Charles Elbert Cosand. I am sure that he is not your immediate relative, for I was once in contact with his daughter, Phyllis. Charles was born 3/17/1870 and was once a teacher of English at Earlham College. The other Charles is a possibility but I know little about him, only that he was born in September of 1883 and that he married. I suppose you have no idea the name of his father. I believe that all Cosands in this country are direct descendents of Emanuel Cosand who came here from England. He had a son Gabriel who was probably an ancestor of yours, since you mentioned that Gabril is a family name. I am sorry to be of so little help. If you had any dates of births or deaths this might make it easier to locate them. Sorry!!

Thank you for your reply. The Carl Cosand I know was born Aug. 10 ,1915. died Dec. 1971 he cleared Air Strips during World War II. He was my father's half brother. My father's name was Fred Harold Cosand born July 7 1920, Died July 23rd 1972.His father's name was Fred Gabril Cosand I am not sure when he was born, died around 1945.There were several brothers of my grandfathers. Bill, John, Truman, and a couple of sisters.Hattie and Reese. Their father's name was Charles Cosand. All we were told was he was French Canadian. He married Susan Monday who was supposed to be from Ireland. Their graves are in West Newton, Indiana just outside of Indianapolis, IN. I keep saying I will go get the dates but I haven't yet. How do you come to know about the Cosand name? I am sure you are busy and I don't mean to bother you.Thank you for your time. I will be gone all next week to New Hampshire but will return after that. Thanks again. Pat Cosand
