Cormiers of Louisiana

I am trying to locate the parents of one of my Great Grandfathers. His name is Polin Cormier. Possible spelled Paulin. He was born in 1884. I think it may be January or June and not sure where in Louisiana. I do know that he died 30 September 1932 in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. He married Mathilda Marie Benoit on 4 August 1902 in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, Jennings, Louisiana. Mathilda Marie is the daughter of Theart Benoit and Therzille (sp?) Benoit. Polin and Mathilda had 5 children: Clavena Marie (my grandmother), Edward J., Theola, Vincent J., and Leonard.

I have searched through census records and do not find anything except in 1920, Polin and Mathilda show up in Jefferson Davis Parish with their 5 children. What is interesting on this census is that just below Polin's family is another Cormier family. The head of that household is Ramie Cormier. His wife is Louisa and there are 6 children: Aristle, Eli, Lillian, Milford, Floyd and Nelson. I was wondering if Polin and Ramie are brothers?

Then on the 1900 Census in Vermilion Parish - ED#99 - Pg. 18 0f 35, I found a Paulin Cormier living under the household of Siphone (sp?) Marceaux. Shown with Paulin in the same household is Arteluss Cormier. They are both indicated as 'brother-in-law'. A Coralie is shown as wife and another person Delma (sp?) is shown as 'son of wife'. I don't know if this is the Paulin that I am looking for, but he is shown as born Jan 1884, age 16 and single.

Any help or clues you might be able to provide is greatly appreciated.
looking for Paul Cormier or anyone who knows of him

My name is Nancy Santiago and as a child I was placed in a home called Monsenior McClusky in White Plains NY. I was visited by Paul Cormier who was my sponsor and also appears as my God-father on my baptismal certificate. I think he was from White Plains also and he was accompanied by a woman called Frances Rowan. I have very fond memories of both and would really like to get in touch with them eithor/or. Paul should be in his late 60's or early 70's. If anyone has any info - I just want to say "Thank you" for all they did for me as a little girl.

Cormier/Mckeon

Okay, this is a stab in the dark. I'm trying to locate my maternal grandmothers family. My Grandmother's name is Arlene Grace Cormier she is 69. She was never married to my grandfather Cletus Roy Mckeon, he died in 1971. She did later marry a man named Harry Descy. My birthmothers name is Linda lee Mckeon(49). I was told as a child my grandmother came from a large family and that her mother raised a cousin as well. I believe she was Canadian or her family was, but also had ties to Wayne County, Detroit, Michigan and Woonsocket Rhode Island. They moved around a lot. I wish I had more information, but maybe the names are familar, cousin, aunt? I am trying to locate Arlene parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, dates of birth, death, marriage, etc. I would also like any information regarding Cormier history in general. Do all the Cormier's descend from a common ancestor?

Any information would be so helpful, since I really am starting from scratch here.

Thanks,
Susan
s_r_lindsay@msn.com

I have a series of 8 1/2" x 11" pages that copy most of the tree.

Anyone who can provide his or her Cormier lineage back through the 1930's 40's and, in some cases as recently as the the 1950's, should send that lineage to me.
Cormier's and LeBlanc's From New Brunswick and Enfield CT

I am new to the Cormier genealogical research. I have recently found out that I have Cormier relatives on my father's side, but that they came from New Brunswick. I have never done research into Canadian relatives before. Please let me know if anyone has any iformation on the following relatives of mine that are Cormier's or related to them:

I am seeking information on Delima Cormier who married Andrew White. She was apparently born in Dover, New Brunswick, Canada and died in Enfield, Connecticut, USA on March 4, 1958. She was the daughter of Joseph Cormier. I did a quick search on the family tree section of rootsweb and found a Delima who married Andre Leblanc. I wonder if Andrew White and Andre Leblanc are one in the same?

Anway, Andrew White was born October 28, 1865 in New Brunswick, Canada and died October 6, 1944. His parents were Judas White and Philamenant.

Can anyone help me get started with my Cormier roots and even tell me a little about what there is in this family to be proud of as I am sure there is quite a bit that I don't know.

Wyatt

TWO CORMIER COUPLES WITH SAME NAMES- An Alert to Researchers

To all Cormier Researchers who descend from the Caraquet, New Brunswick and Magdalen Islands, Quebec branches.

There are obviously TWO Cormier couples with the same names!!!!!

For the Caraquet, New Brunswick branch:

Nicolas CORMIER s/o Alexis & Elisabeth Gauthier of Carleton, QC.
who married Rosalie HÉBERT d/o Jean & Rose Cyr
at Caraquet, NB on 26 Oct 1807

They are NOT to be confused with the other couple with the same names:

For the Magdalen Islands, Quebec branch:

Nicolas CORMIER s/o Pierre & Isabelle Chiasson
who married
Rosalie HÉBERT d/o Charles & Rosalie Vigneau
at Havre-Aubert (Magdalen Islands), QC. circa 1792

I never before noticed the similarities in names of the two couples until Kathy St-Pierre of Michigan (a Caraquet branch descendant) wrote to tell me we are closely related through this couple. Just wanted to post a heads up for other researchers on this board who may be descended in similar fashions from one branch or the other, to make sure you have the right ancestors back to Acadia.

Alexis Cormier was the son of Jean-Baptiste and Madeleine Thériot. Pierre Cormier's parents are presently unknown, pending identification by Stephen A. White and other Cormier experts.

Happy Researching, Dennis Boudreau

Information about Cormier family

I am doing research for a genealogy special project at my school, Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts, and I have no information about my mother's side of the family. The only information I have is that my mother's father, Preston Cormier, married my grandmother, Lizzie Mae Broussard. They had 5 children: Ronnie Lee Cormier, Jim Cormier, Darlene Faye Cormier, Cheryl Cormier, and my mother, Jacqueline Sue Cormier. I also know that Preston committed suicide by shooting himself when my mother was only 13 months old. Lizzie is also deceased. If anyone has any information about these Cormiers could you please post, it would be very helpful to my search.
Thank you,
Natalie Vaughan

Since I have found most of what I needed in my family line, the question came up in our family as to what the surname Cormier meant. I have looked up on sites for surname research, and Cormier never comes up as a surname that they have in their data. Does anyone have any idea what the meaning is, or where I could find that info?

Cormier's family and it's link to cancer

I was interest in knowing if it's just coincidence or fact that our family seems to be pre-disposed to various Cancers. It seems that it's the leading cause of death in our family (to the tune of about 80% of us), with very few people making it past 65. Has anyone else seen this trend in thier Cormier line? Anyone have data on this? If it's a factor for many of our family lines, than there may be DNA tests / studies that could help improve the statistics.

Food for thought anyway, CC

Anyone have any info on the parents / lineage of my grandparents from Shediac? They both died in the early 60's. I know that he worked for the railroad but I'm unsure if he was born there or moved there to work for the railroad of which Shediac was the main hub arround that era. There is a lot of documentation of the family from the 1600's down but I can't seem to make the connection from Zoel back to these lines. The only doccument I've found is in the collection of Alonzo Leblanc (my dads cousin) on file at Univ. of NB. It's a card of condolence to my grandmother for the death of my grandfather Zoel.

Help?
