I'm a family tree beginner
My grandfather told me once that he thought all the COPE's were related. Is this true?
He also thought that we originated in Wales. Does anyone know of Cope's from there?
I'm sorry if these questions are silly, but I am a beginner, and have little information of my own!
Thanks for your help! Marianne Cope

I am a beginner also and I have been told that the Copes in my tree are Cherokee Indians. The only thing I know is that my G-Grandmother is Creasy Cope Milligan B.around the late 1800(s).She lived in SC and is buried in Mcall Cemetery.Anything ring a bell??I'm searching for any info about the Cope line.

Crystal, Idon't know if all Cope's related but my great grandmother was called Florence Cope, her father was William married to Ann elizabeth Seed. They came from Clapton, Hackney in London. Don't know if they originated there.this was about 1830s

Some of the Cope lines were from Germany and some from England. The original German spelling was probably Koop or Kope. I don't think they are all related unless it is very far back. There is also a COPES family in Northampton Co, VA, originally there from the 1600's. Some of the Cope lines in PA are English and some German.

Thanks for what you sent me.Maybe it can help.Oh,do you know if any slaves were owned by your Copes?I know that some Indians were slaves and my Great Grandmother,Creasy was an Indian.Hope we both get lucky with our family history.

I am of German Cope ancestory.
My great great gandfather was naturalized in 1870's. His court papers list/note his last name as Koop and Kope. Go figure! But on all US census records its noted as Cope. I have not been able to find the ship records of their passage and nothing I have gives the city or area place in Germany where he came from.
If any one know of a place where Koop or Kope family came from if would give me a sarting point to work on.
