Absolutely fanatastic job. I am more interested in the pre-1727 voyage of Joost Koop. <----That is the first time I spelled it that way, haven't even searched for it yet. I'd like to explore the lineage in Germany. You're article helped. I've read that immigrants were asked to drop the second sylabel from there name ex. Koopman - become koop - coop.

You may need to check if John J Cope of Marlboro co. s.c. is your granddad in 1860. He had a son John wesley cope. My email is mcarter477@alltel.net if I am right.

came from,my maiden name is cope,im trying to find some relations,so i hope they are not in wales,to far.

can anyone help,im trying to find anyone related to me.
im english,so its the english copes im after.
my dad was name alan cope,his dad was either albert or
arthur cope they lived in the westmidlands,my dad alan had
an uncle called jack,his children children were dorothy and
jean.this was the late 1960s,i was about 9yrs old then,they were older then me,i remember dorothy having
dalmation dogs,does that ring abell with anybody,
dot and jean would maybe in there 50s now,if anyone can help, thankyou,you might even be one of ther daughters or sons,if any one knows anything. they all lived in smethwick in the westmidlands,albert/arthur,(my grandad)
and his brother uncle jack,or so there was another brother
who lived just round the corner from them.

Hi Pam, I know this finds you almost 14 years later, but here goes.
Jacob Andrew Cope b. 25 Dec. 1770 in Rowan, NC married Barbara Krauss Beck ((b. 1775-1860) in Rowan, NC) on 16 Nov. 1794. Barbara's father was Jacob Beck (sometimes Peck) b. 1750 in Virginia.

Andrew's parents were Johann Jost Cope (1752-1785) and Mary Bowen (1735-1790)

Julie, I am the granddaughter of Dollie and Oscar Ensley, the daughter of Charles and Margie Biggerstaff. I go by the nickname of Libby. Your dad, Jerry, and I were very close. In fact, he was only 1 yr older than me. Grandma's real name was Phoebe Jane. Dollie was a nickname. She was born 8/21/01 and died in May of 1974. She was the daughter of William and Sarah Cope.
