Churn Creek Man Dies At Hospital Friday
Ed Copas, 70, of Churn Creek died Friday morning at 9:30 at the Holzer Hospital, Gallipolis. He was the son of the late Harrison and Lou Webb Copas and had been in ill health for some time.
He was the father of sixteen children, a son, Ralph was killed in an automobile accident four years ago and surviving are Roby of Middleport, Roy of Scottsville, Pa., Mrs. Bertha Donio of Downingtown, Pa., Mrs. Emma Hayslip of Portsmouth, Arthur and Brice of Hamilton, Harrison and John of Columbus, Mrs. Edna Hayslip, Mrs. Anna Hubbard and Mrs. Phyllis Rothwell of Blue Creek, Ed of Cincinnati, Charles at home, Floyd of Highland and Edgar of Atlanta, Georgia.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Church of God at Sunshine Ridge with Rev. John Reed conducting the service. Burial was in the Copas cemetery under the direction of Lafferty Funeral Home.

Phyllis Rothwell, 79, of Lynx, died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. She was born January 1, 1935 in Blue Creek. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Bessie (Turner) Copas; seven brothers: Brice, Edward, Ralph, William, Arthur, Roy and John; and four sisters: Anna Mae Hubbard, Bertha Donnio, Edna Hayslip and Emma Lewis.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Rothwell of Lynx; daughter, Mary Williams of Lynx; five sons, Steve (Brenda) Rothwell, Larry (Debbie) Rothwell, Greg (Helen) Rothwell, Robert Rothwell and Cameron (LaDonna) Rothwell all of Lynx, eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Charlie Copas of Jefferson Township and Harrison Copas of Canal Winchester; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was a homemaker and loved to go to church. She was a member of Mt. Armenia Church. Phyllis worked a long time for the Lord and how He will say "Welcome Home my good and faithful servant." She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
The visitation is Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Mt. Armenia Church in Lynx and funeral at 3 p.m. Pastor Tom Brown will officiate. The interment is at Mt. Armenia Cemetery in Lynx. Lafferty Funeral Home of West Union is serving the family.
