Former Resident of Adams County
Solomon Copas, Native of Blue Creek, Passes Away in Indiana
The following notice of the death of a former resident of Adams county is taken from The Benton Review, published at Fowler, Ind.:
“Solomon Shepherd Copas died at the home of his son Wilson, near Earl Park on Dec. 23, 1928, in the 84th year of age. He was born at Blue Creek, Adams county, Ohio, the son of James and Sarah Copas, who were of the famous Ohio Valley pioneer stock. It was a sturdy race, whose imprint is still felt all over that territory. At the age of 14 his father’s death made him the chief support of his widowed mother and her flock. He early developed traits of self sacrifice, a spirit which became the dominating passion of his long life. No one ever applied to him for help or consolation in vain or found him unsympathetic or neglectful. Most of his young manhood was lived in his home district but he spent several years farming in Benton county in the early Ninties returning to Ohio where he remained till some twenty years ago when he returned to make his home with his son Wilson. He never made an enemy and his friends were many. Her he spent the world’s most exciting years among those he loved. From his Benton county home he made visits to the home of his children, or brother and sister, but the beautiful home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Copas was the rallying point of the clan.
“The little ones quickly recognized the spirit, that had “become as one of these little ones” and lovingly addressed him as “Little Grandpa” in distinction from their over-mastering aggressive big grandpas.
He suffered from a paralytic stroke in November from which he never recovered. His great age left him little reserve to fight the infirmities creeping in upon him. He was of a deeply religious nature, a Communicant of the Earl Park Presbyterian church at the time of his death. The funeral services were from the church, preceded by prayer at his home, Rev. Wendell Pontius officiating. Interment in Fowler cemetery.
“His living, close relatives are four children, Mrs. Myrta Nattinger, Blanchard, N. Dak., Crayton Copas, Portsmouth, Ohio, Wilson W. of Earl Park, Mrs. Leona Atkinson of Indianapolis and one stepson Leslie Evans, Lafayette, thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Wesley Copas of Fowler and one sister, Mrs. Helen Hodge of Stout, Ohio.

Solomon S. Copas was my husband's great grand uncle. I only have the name of one of his children, Wilson. Can you possibly give me more info on his other children? I would appreciate anymore info you might have on the genealogy of the Copas family.
