My great grandfather, John Marshall
Cookson, is listed in the 1850 Census in the household of
Gardner Cookson with his brother Calvin and his mother Mary. My family records say that John was born Feb. 2, 1848 in Linneus, Aroostock, Me. His father was Calvin Gray
Cookson born ca 1821-1824 and married to Mary
Curran ca 1844. I found him later in
Elgin, Canada and he died in Augres, Mi. (I have a copy of his death certificate but it gives no earlier data). I have not been able to trace him any earlier or find his parentage. I assume that he and
Gardner were brothers. I have noted a number of Cooksons around the area at the time. If any of my data would be of helo to you let me know and I would very much appreciate any data you find on
Gardner or Calvin Gray. The 1850 Census for
Brewer, Penobscott, Me shows him with three sons, Edward A., John C. and Wiliam.
