Looking for descendants from the large family of HUGH COOK, b. 1815 & MARY ANN MURRAY(COOK), b. abt. 1820, who came from County Westmeath, IR to WHEATLAND in 1847 and whose descendants are found in Wheatland, Sweden, Scottsville and the city of Rochester at least through the 1930 Census. Members of Mary Ann's JAMES MURRAY family came at the same time. Hugh and Mary Ann's 8 children are: (1) MATTHEW COOK, b. 1835, d. aft. 1900, m. Anne; (2) CATHERINE COOK, b. 1841; (3) THOMAS COOK, b. 1843, d. aft. 1880, m. Elizabeth; (4) JAMES COOK, b. 1844, d. 1931, m. Elizabeth Clifton in California; (5) MARY COOK, b. abt. 1849; (6) MARGARET J. COOK, B. ABT. 1852; (7) ELIZABETH "LIBBIE" COOK, b. abt. 1854; (8) JOHN F. COOK, b. 1858, d. bef. 1910, m. Sarah J. Spouses names in later generations include: BURKHART, LOHWATER and BOAS. The married names of most of the girls are unknown, however this family used the same above first names repeatedly throughout the years. Others in this family, through 1930, with the surname "Cook" are: Ellen, Phoebe, Benson, Frank, Ann, Louis, William, Florence, Edmond, Vincent, Fred, Alice, Grace, Agnes, Lillian and Gertrude. Hugh and Mary Ann started out as "farmers" but as the 19th Century progressed some of the families gravitated to Rochester for factory and service jobs. The California branch would love to hear from anyone who might be related. Barbara Hays Cook, Sacramento, CA
