My mother, Maxine J. Converse Deady, was the daughter of Earl W. Converse through his second marriage to my grandmother, Nancy E. Miller Converse Shively Coburn. During their marriage, they resided for the most part in the western part of Pennsylvania. Earl W. Converse also had a son, Stanley H. Converse, through his first marriage to Katherine Roenick (or Roenig) in 1918 with most of this marriage residing in the Rochester, NY, area. There are several family trees in the public portion of Ancestry.com which purport to show Earl W. Converse deceased in the state of Washington in 1977. There is apparently another Earl Converse that this death is referring to since my grandfather, Earl W. Converse, died on January 11th, 1929, in Ford City of pneumonia. I am going to post his death notice which appeared in the Kittanning, Pennsylvania, newspaper, the Simpson's Leader-Times on January 12, 1929:
"Pneumonia Causes Death of E. Converse Stricken with Severe Cold Nine Days Ago, Pneumonia Ensued Causing His Death
Ford City Jan 12-Earl W. Converse, aged 34, of Bloomsburg, passed away yesterday afternoon at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. R.L. Miller, Third Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Converse and daughter, Maxine, came to Ford City some time ago to spend the winter with Mrs. Miller.
Stricken with a severe cold nine days ago, it developed into pneumonia which caused his death Friday afternoon at 2:25. He is survived by his wife, little daughter, and his father who resides at Rochester, N. Y.
On account of the critical condition of his brother-in-law, Frank Miller, the body will be removed to the home of D. I.Guthrie, 1137 Seventh Avenue. Funeral arrangements have not as yet been made."
I also have an article that appeared in this same paper on January 16th that details the funeral at the home of D.I.Fair a few days later. Anyone who would like more information on this story, please contact Patrick Deady at
