Phoebe Conalty was the sister to my Great-grandfather, George Conalty. George was born 3 May 1844. Phoebe was born in 1850 as close as I can tell. Phoebe had a sister Eliza (1847) a brother Richard (1841), a brother Walter Hill (1839), a sister Pauline (1835, and a brother Arthur (1831).
I have been trying to trace the family back to Ireland but many of the records were destroyed. There is a Walter Henry Conalty in Liverpool and a Dr. Michael Conalty in Dublin. So far I haven't been able to find the connection between them.
Dr. Michael tells me that all the Conalty's originally came from County Down but that during the 1820's when linen production became slow due to cotton, and again in 1845 due to the potato famine, many went to Liverpool.
My grandfather, Walter Conalty (2 Oct 1883 - 1 Mar 1990) came to Canada in 1911 on the Cunard Ship, Grampian. He landed in Nova Scotia and eventually ended up in Quebec, had three daughters and a son, my father Frank Edward Conalty (9 Apr 1919 - 7 May 1990).
I know that My great grandfather was the child of William Conalty( 9 Feb 1805) and Eliza Leary (1807) and that William had a sister Catherine (27 March 1807). William and Eliza were married 19 October 1829)
The parents of William and Catherine were Arthur Conalty and Elizabeth but I have no last name for her and no dates.
I would be interested in any further information you may have.
