My ggrandmother was Rose Conaghan, possibly the daughter of Con Conaghan from the townland of Tullycleave, Ardara, Co. Donegal in Ireland. Rose was born about 1825, married Charles Melly from Derryness, the next townland, and was listed as 75 in the 1901 Irish Census. I know of at least one Melly/Melley cousin who settled in the coal regions of PA abt 1860 or so--Father Edward Melley of Scranton, PA. Apparently there were other relatives who settled in PA as well. For those researching the Conaghan/Conahan name, you may want to search County Donegal for your Irish ancestors.

My gr grandfather-Bernard Conaghan settled in southwest Georgia (Albany). I don't know much about his date or place of birth. Thought you would like to know that there are or were Conaghans who came south. MJ

Hi, my g.f. was Pat Conaghan lived in Glenties Co Donegal born C.1866.Present days there are a lot of Con.aghans still in Donegal and rest of Ireland, I guess there are greater #'s living in the rest of world. Origins are thought to be in Donegal and Derry before the Scottish factor ?.

Hello there Jean, Saw your reply to my message, hope Ican be of some help. My Grandfather came from a family of 13, there was a John, but have asked around and no one seems to recall any of the other names. He also had a sister called Madge who went over to America,.I could name most of his other brothers and sisters, if it is of help to anyone.I suppose it all depends how far back we are going.Nice to hear from you anyway. Regards Fran.
