Hi! I'm looking for a Patrick Conahan too--he's my step-ggrandfather & immigrated from Donegal app.1860 (age 8) to Eastern Pa.-problably around coal-mining area of Hazleton. He married my widowed ggrandmother, Sarah Phillips who already had 5 children & went on to have 3 more-Thomas, Leo & Agnes-(married Bill Gallegher)who had 2 children-Billy & Claire(married a Devlin)-Anything sound familiar?

I don't know if this will fit in with anyones family at all or if anyone may have more experience with Irish research but I have:

Bernard CONAGHAN born 1836 in Donegal, Ireland (no town listed).

His parents are listed as James CONAGHAN and Frances McGEE.

I am yet to find immigration details for him but he came to Australia (NSW) sometime before 1863 when he married Ellen DUGAN(DUGGAN/DOOHAN)(she was born 1839 in Derry, Ireland) in Grafton, NSW, Australia.

Unfortunately this is all the info I have on him yet using his marriage cert, Death cert and some of his children's birth certs.

Would love to know if anyone can either shed some light or give me some idea where to go from here.

Kind Regards,

Michelle

In the 19th. century spelling was not a priority with our ancestors. Along with this Irish may have been thir first language. THe family name Melly is popular in Donegal and they may have been located in Lettermacaward. In the 1940's many Melly's emigrated to the U.S. were successful and returned to differnet parts of Ireland. Slan
