Hi
I am looking for any information on my GG Grandfather Cornelius CONAHAN. He supposedly came from Ireland in the mid-1870s and settled in Luzerne Co Pennsylvania. He died in a well documented mining accident in the early 1900s. There is info on a Cornelius Conahan coming over around 1856 (Philly) and also a Cornelius Conaghan coming over in 1864 (New York) . It think these are too early.
Looking forward to hearing from you!!

Hello: My maiden name was CONAHAN and I have one brother. Our Grandfather, Frank CONAHAN, was born in Contra Costa Co, CA in 1870. His father, another Frank (Francis) CONAHAN was the immigrant from Ireland in about 1849. He was a coal miner in Hazelton, Luzerne Co., PA and married Mary MEHEGAN. They had two daughters, Bridget Delia and Jane Frances, both born in PA. Then the family moved west and gr-g'pa went to coal mining in Nortonville, Contra Costa Co., CA. Mary MEHEGAN was born in County Cork, Ireland. Francis CONAHAN, the immigrant, was from County Donegal, we think.

Any connections?

Hi "I don't know who":

I was interested in your post on the Conahan family. My Francis Connaghan was in Hazelton and was married to Maria Mehegan or Mehigin. They had two daughters born in PA -- one named Jane and the other Bridget Delia. Then they moved on to CA where my grandfather, Frank, was born in Jan of 1870. What caught my eye in your post was the name "Gerald" -- that is my brother's name. In fact he is Gerald Patrick.

I sure don't know if we are related, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if we are.

Sincerely, Norma

Most of the Conahan's were from Donegal county. They immigrated here mostly to Hazleton, a few like my ancestors cam to Wilkes-barre, about 15 miles north. It was originally spelled Conaghan or Conaughan, I haven't figured it out yet. Let me know what you know. I have more info as well.
