My maiden name is Conacher. My father was born in St. Kitts and grew up in Antigua. He went to University in Glasgow where he met my mother, and together they moved to British Guyana during the WW2. I was born in Guyana, and brought up in Jamaica, educated in England. I now live in Canada. I don't know any Conachers, apart from my immediate family....... perhaps you are one.

Anything is possible, my Conachers start around 1535 in Logierait, Perthshire, SCT. The Conacher name is usually listed as a Sept of the McDougal Clan, but my lot are associated with the Dukes of Athol,
I even have Stewart ancestors. regards, Willie.

It has been such a long time since I sent my message I had forgotten all about it, but thanks for replying!

If memory serves me correctly, Stewart was the clan my ancestors were connected with. I get confused, because Dad married a Sydney and that was the Robertson clan.

Thanks for your input - if you find that your branch reaches out to my family, I will be happy to fill you in.

My Father was William Paton Conacher who was born in Malton, North Yorks, in 1920. His father was Robert Noel Conacher who I believe was a Police Inspector in North Yorkshire Police and went to Australia in the 1920s. He apparently retired as a Commissioner of Police and became a Farmer, all this is hearsay as my father has been dead some 30 years. I would like to start researching the family as I believe that my Grandfather had another family in Australia, a member of which came over to the UK as a RAAF pilot.

Dear Willie,
thank you for your prompt reply. As I told you in my earlier e-mail, my father died in 1973. His full name was William Paton Conacher. I met one or two of his Aunts and uncles as a child, the last one I remember was Aunt Jenny who lived in Crieff, Scotland and died an 1971. She used to talh about Auntie Phoemie who I would imagine is Euphemia Brown who appears in the Tree.

I would like to take advantage of your offer to provide information as retirement looms and I wouldlike to do some digging (perhaps thats the wrong word) for myself. Interestingly my mother was Mary Livingston and she came from a tiny village in the North of Scoptland called Ballachulish. As a child I used to ask if we were related to the explorer and missionary, David Livingstone, but was told that hecame from the Lowlands near Glasgopw,so I took it for a 'No'. However I went to work in Zimbabwe and of course there were statues of david livingston everywhere. I had to return to the UK and deceided to take my family up to Ballachulish and muysch to my amazement I discovered that David Livingstones parents came from a small village called Obnich which is about 5 miles away from Ballachulish. My only living relatives on the Livingstone side are my Uncle Duncan and his three boys who all now live in Australia

If you would like to get in touch with me directly my e-mail address is ewen.conacher@virgin.net. I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Hi, Maybe you all ready have this information but just in case I thought I would drop you a note. While looking for my GG Grandfather David Connors(1795-1879) at the Athol House Cemetery in Atholville NB. Canada I came accross this one: (David Conacher died ? age 42/47 born ? 10th day Aug. 1772, in the parish of Logierait, Perthshire North Britain.) If you would like to view this site, just type in www.Restigouche.net and then find Irene Doyle's pages and look of Athol House Cemetery, it has all the information about the cemetery. It makes me wonder if my GGG Grandparents may of come from the same parish. Have you ever found Connors in that area? Thank You Carol Pelletier, St. Francis, Maine

Surnames: Conacher, Robertson, McDonald, Paton.
Hi carol, The name is not familiar to me but you will find that most of the Conachers in the world originated in Logierait from 4 or 5 brothers, John, Peter, James, Duncan(e), and Thomas from about 1535 in the old Parish records of Logierait in Perthshire, Scotland. I have not come across Conner in my research up to now but who knows?. Regards, Willie.
