My father, Robert Stewart Conacher, came to the US in 1939. He was born in Dundee. His father was John Conacher, 1869-1967, who was from Perth.

Hi - My ancestors also lived in Perth during the early 1800's. I was wondering who John was possibly a decedent of PETER CON(N)ACHER and MARY-ANN RICHMOND of Perth (more likely possibly a grandchild?)

I'm afraid that I don't know too much about Peter Connacher. I have a ram's horn snuff box with Peter Connacher, David Connacher and several other recipiants-the box was apparently handed down many times,as it was inscribed "D.C. to J.C." and "Peter to David", et al. I don't know what the connection is. My grandfather, John Conacher was from Perth, born 1870. His father, John, lived around Perth and was a poacher of Tay Salmon, all spelled the name Conacher.

My GGG grandfather was Charles Conacher b 1780 in Perthshire. He was married to Margaret McFairlane and made fishing tackle. Somewhere in the late 1700's he moved the family to Perth where he lived till the late 1840's. Children I know of from Charles & Margaret were Alexander, John, Peter, Janet and Margaret. For some reason my GG grandfather Peter changed his name to Connacher when he moved to Ayr.

Hi Janee,
Contact me we have a lot of the same people showing up in our ancestral families. My lineage is Mungo 1740; Mungo 1774; Donald 1809; James 1841; Robert 1869; Jessie 1896; Margaret 1931

Hi Gavin, We are cousins (second cousins to be exact) my mother Janet and your father Earl were cousins. I believe there were two Robert Hugh Kennedy Conacher's, the one you have listed was born in 1875 and another born May 22, 1869. It is this second one that we are descendants of and he married Margaret Janet Lawson in 1894. I came across this other Robert in my searching. Our Robert Hugh (born 1869), from trees I have found on RootsWeb, was the son of James and Helen (Kennedy), who was the son of Donald and Isabell (McLaren), who was the son of Mungo and Christian (Keir), who was the son of Mungo and Margaret (Reid). This first Mungo was born at Logierait Perthshire and once we get to Donald he was born Dowally which is close to Blair Atholl. Another message somewhere on this board stated that all the Conachers from the Atholl region were descendants of the same line that immigrated from Ireland in the 1530's.
As for the outmigration of the Conacher family, I can't help much there. I do know that there were many Conachers that migrated all over the world. There are some in Australia, the USA and not sure where else. Historically many families left Scotland due to the industrial revolution and the corresponding changes to the work force and many others emigrated to colonies for the chance to re-establish themselves on cheap land.

I too have Donald as son of Mungo. I was looking at the info sent by Willie and I think the confusion is coming at Donald. the Donald I have written down was a tailor but he was born in 1809 at Dowally Perth Scotland and died April 26, 1878 whereas the info Willie supplied had him born somewhere else and at a different time. I know when I started researching my Norwegian ancestry, I repeatedly came across siblings and cousins naming their children the same name because of the customary "naming protocol" of children.

Hi Jane, Don't know if I messaged you before or not, but I am a descendent of Robert Hugh Kennedy Conacher, son of James Coancher who married Helen Kennedy all of Dowally Perth Scotland.

Hello Willie, I have just found mention of Robert in your tree on Ancestry. I have Annie Elizabeth Conacher nee Plowman in my tree, and in her Will she is referred to as the wife of Robert Noel Conacher. There was no mention of him in the Will, but neither could I find a death for him, until I looked at your tree. It seems he married in 1928,either May E. Stone or May E. James in Australia, and subsequently died in 1955, also in Australia. Do you know of the circumstances which led to him going to Australia, and remarrying? Do you know if he divorced Annie Elizabeth before he went? I would be very grateful for any information. pammargaret
