Saw your posting and thought I would ask a quick question: is the name "Cona" a native American surname? I ask this as I have a grt grandmother, Ada "Cone", who was allegedly b.c. 1873 on an Indian reservation in Arizona and later orphaned in the early to mid 1880s. Tradition says she was then taken by missionaries to relatives in TX. We know very little about her, but we have some indication that she might have been from the Ft. Defiance area and that she was at least part Navajo.
In any event, any insight that you may have about the Cona surname would be appreciated.
Regards,
Larry

Surnames: Cona, Aynes, Heady Cofer, Copher
Hi, Just curious, my Greatgrand mother was Cona Blanche Cofer. It was announced or mentioned at her funeral that she was of Native American ancestry, I cannot find any link to connect her. Her mother was of Aynes and Heady family surnames. Fannie/y Aynes born 1800-16? maybe in Va./Kentucky. in 1880 census Kentucky, Bourbon Co.,Married Thomas Copher/cofer, Children Thomas J., French etc. Found a Geo. Cofer married to a Chickasaw woman named Betty. he was not listed with the family on the Dawes record. This is a long shot but I saw the cona name and as unusual as the name is I thought I'd post this info. Cona is also listed as a name from Australia. Thank you, Wendy
