By the way, the Comptons did NOT move from Vicksburg to Frogmore, LA. Brushy Bayou Plantation is actually at Stacy, LA which is near Frogmore. Brushy Bayou came into the family when Judge David Stacy, noted LA attorney, married Mary Jane King from MS, and their daughter Emma Stacy married Thomas Wilbur Compton (MS) in 1860. Comptons have lived in V'burg since the 1820's, but farmed the plantation since the 1830's. Brushy Bayou is still a family-owned plantation, not owned by one person. You are right about Caroline Compton being a well known Southern artist - just Google her!
