In the time of Alexander 2,Humphrey of Kilpatrick was given the barony of Colquhoun in Dunbartonshire,from which the family takes its name,by Malcolm,Earl of Lennox.
In the 14th centuary the clan acquired the lands of Luss through the marriage of Sir Robert Kilpatrick to the(Fair Maid of Luss.)
The Macgregors attacked the Colquhouns at Luss in 1603,and were outlawed as a clan by James Vl after massacaring the Colquhouns and their chief at the Battle of Glenfruin.
The Macgregor chief and 11 of his principle
clansmen were hanged.
