I am attempting to research my great-grandfather's family from Ballinisloe. His name was James Colahan, born 1864 and came to US in 1882. I know his family was from Clontuskurt area. He had a brother, Thomas who came over before him and was a NY policeman. James settled in Plainview, Kansas area. He married Elizabeth Guerin from Missouri and had a large family. Anybody have any help?

My great-grandfather was James Colahan who lived in Plainville, Kansas. He died I believe in 1951 or 1952 and had 10-12 children. My grandfathers name was Thomas and was a cattleman in and around Plainville which is in Rooks County. According to the obituary that I have read James moved out here from I believe Ohio worked for the Union Pacific Railroad at one time. He bought land & found oil and at one time was a millionaire. The money must of went to all of his children or he spent it because it is nowhere to be seen now. If you have any more specific questions let me know and let me know any other information you might have. Thanks Larry

All I know of Thomas is that he was supposed to have died young and had a twin brother Peter. Also a brother John who lived in the Bronx and 3 sisters - Catherine, Mary and Margarite who emmigrated at different times. Does that tie in with your family???

Hi Tim, I am a great grandaughter of James also. The info you state is also what I had heard from my grandmother, Ruth. She was married to Peter Colahan, who was my grand father. Peter was one of 13 children of James and Elizabeth. I have a picture of James and Elizabeth together that was taken at their 50 wedding anniversary. They were both in their 80's when the picture was taken. My grandmother told me quite a bit about James and Elizabeth and their family. email me and I will try to share what I know. I think you live in Oregon also, right?
