I would love to exchange Colahan information with either of you. My husband's ancestor is Ann "Annie" (Colahan) Devlin. She was born in around 1842 in Ireland and immigrated in 1862 to Schuylkill county with her husband Christopher "Christ" Devlin. Many of the children's names between the John/James/Annie families overlap but I do not know the connection - if any.

My husband is a descendant of Margaret's brother John Hughes Colahan (1815-1865) who married Mary ? (1817 - 1868)in Lawrencetown. They came to New York in 1840. His elder son, Stephen J Colahan (1841-1874), a lawyer and an elected official, was my husband's great-great grand-father. Other siblings include Matilda (1846-1871), Damascus (1851-1852) and Mary Christina (1854- ?).
Mary Christina married George T Partrick. One of their daughters, Mary Christina Jr, married Edward G Jauregui. Several Partricks and Jaureguis are buried in the Colahan family grave in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. We found out recently that several of their descendants are living in Nassau County, in the NYC suburbs.

Hi, My GGGrandmother Ester (Hester) Collahan was born in Ireland around 1827 her mother and father were John Collahan married Ester (Hester) Hughes.
My GGGrandmother Ester married William Murphy somewhere in Ireland, they had a daughter in Ireland Ellen Murphy (born in Ireland 1849), son (my ggrandfather John C. Murphy born in Schuylkill County, New Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1851). Other children were Mary Ann Murphy born in 1854,(Mary married Matthew Calleghan) Margaret Murphy born in 1856, Catherine Murphy born in 1859. Sound like this could be a matching family since your Collahan's moved to Schuylkill County, PA.

I checked my files and did not find records for Esther Collahan or William Murphy. I did find Catharine Colohan who was the daughter of John Colohan and Esther Hughes of Lismanny in Clontuskert Parish. She was baptized February 18, 1829. My ancestors also came from Clontuskert Parish.

There is a Message Board posting from 2000 by Rhonda Newberry which listed Margaret Colahan/Coolahan born 1820-1821 in Lawrencetown. She is identified as the daughter of John Colahan and Hessy (Esther) Hughes. Margaret married Peter Egan in Lawrencetown and they went to Australia in 1838.

Do you have baptismal records for the Murphys born in New Philadelphia. The names of the sponsors could help establish family relationships. The records from the early 1850s would be at St. Stephen Church in Port Carbon. The records from the later 1850s would be at Holy Cross (formerly Holy Family) Church in New Philadelphia.

Hi Ronda, I have a Ester (Hughes) Colahan. Father in John Colihan and Ester Hughes. She married William Murphy in Ireland had a daughter in 1849 in Ireland then moved to New Philadelphia (Schuylkill County) Pennsylvania in 1850. Had a boy named John Murphy in 1852, also had a daughter Margaret and other kids. Sounds to me like your Margaret Colahan and my Ester are sisters. I'm interested in what you know about the family. Contact information below. Please email me if you get this message.
