On Sept. 5, 1907, a Raffaele COLABELLA, age 17, single, a Farmer, arrived at Ellis Island aboard the ship 'The Nord America.' He came from Southern Italy and was unable to read or write. His last permanent residence was Triventi, Campobasso, Italy, where his nearest relative was his aunt, Concetta FIORE also in Trivento. His destination in the US was NY, possibly Yonkers (hard to read). He paid for his own passage and was going to see his uncle Domenico M. PIRETO at 49 or 119 Park Hill Ave. (also hard to read). Trivento, Campobasso, Italy was Raffaele COLABELLA's place of birth. According to ship's manifest the color of his eyes and hair was described as "chestnut."
Raffaele may have been my GGF, or a brother of my GGF. I would like to know if this man indeed eventually settled in New Jersey, either in Lyndhurst (Bergen County) or in Newark (Essex County). Any connections? Please write to me or post here. Thanks!
Diane I.
