By accident I ran across the following census record from the 1850 census of Caswell Co. NC and noted it because of this lady's extreme age. Perhaps you Coile/Coyle folks can benefit from this.
Hshld. no. 891: Mary Coile 102 b. Rowan Co.NC, Felix Smith 39/black laborer b. Carroll Co. NC

This was the only Coile/Coyle listing in the co. There was a Green W. Cole age 43 b. VA & family at house no. 636, and a Catharine Coles age 3 b. VA enum. with no. 762 Lyda Renolds 25 VA. I searched briefly for info on this Mary Coile, with no luck. There are a number of Cole marriages in appropriate counties, one of which could apply here. Considering her age, this woman could have married a Coile any time over a long period of time (or she may never have been married).

If you have connections to Caswell Co. NC, note that the 1850 census of Caswell Co. NC is unusual in that it gives the county of birthplace for everyone b. NC; this birthplace detail is found in only a very few counties in the US. In Caswell Co. 1850, most people are b. Caswell Co., with some b. in adj. cos. of Rockingham, Person, Orange, and VA (most of them probably from the adjacent VA cos. to the north, i.e. Pittsylvania and Halifax); a few residents are from nearby Guilford, Granville, Wake, Chatham, etc. The terrain and roads seems to favor VA connections; to the south, "mountains" form a natural barrier to Randolph, Davidson, and points south. I was only interested in people who were born in southern counties, specifically Montgomery Co., whose courthouse was burned in 1843 with the loss of all their records to that date. In Caswell 1850, very few are from the Montgomery/Rowan/Anson etc. or any other southern, western, or coastal NC cos., and there are very few from other states - I noticed TN, MS, MD, PA, etc., probably less than 10 total from any state other than VA.

In reviewing the entire census of Caswell Co. (over 1300 households), the only listing for Rowan/Anson/Montgomery/Stanly was the above listing. There were 3 from Randolph Co. - the wife and dau. of no. 1276 Samuel Johnston, a miller; and no. 1298 Madison Deviney.

Other notes concerning the above Mary Coile:
(1) a James Coile mar. Jean Harrington 12 Sep 1778 Rowan Co. NC; I found no Coyle in those mar. records
(2) I noticed a Mary Cole b. 1748 mar. Zachariah Cole; his parents were Joseph COLE (b. 3 May 1716 Swansea, Bristol, MA, d. 1785 Washington, VA) and Freelove MASON (b. 11 Nov 1720, d. 1792); the Joseph Cole family seems to have come to VA after 1750, but other Coles they intermarried with (maybe the family of Mary Cole?) seem to have been in VA before 1750; I have no idea whether or not this applies to the above Mary Coile b. 1748

I have no Coile connections, am just passing this on for what it's worth.
