COILE DNA Project

I am thinking about submitting a DNA sample to the COILE DNA Project. I am a descendant of James Coil b. 8-1-1800 in North Carolina.

I was wondering if anyone else has submitted DNA and who your oldest known Coile relative is. I am particularly interested in finding out whether or not any male descendants of Warren COILE b. Abt. 1805 in VA (married Matilda WEBB) have been or are willing to be tested. Warren may be the brother of James?

Below are a couple of links regarding the COILE DNA project. Just cut and paste them into your internet browser.

Tim,

I'm not sure, but I believe you and I may have exchanged e-mails about the Coile family a few years back. I too descend directly from James Coil(e), born in NC in 1800.

I had never thought about the Warren Coile you mention being our James's brother, but their birth dates make it certainly within the realm of possibility, although Warren was born in Virginia and James in NC five years earlier.

I don't know if you know this, but our James Coile had a grandson named James Warren Coile, which lends some weight to your theory.

Can you please let me know if you decide to go ahead with the DNA testing? I'd definitely be interested to know if you find other lines that we connect with. I think DNA testing is a wonderful thing because it helps so much in sorting out the Coil(e)s from the Kile/Kyle lines.

I've also always wondered if our James Coile was a descendant of the James Coile who fought in the Revolution. My gut says yes, but I can't find documentation to prove it (it doesn't help that I now live in England, so I'm not in the States to physically go and look things up).

I'd be happy to send you my Coile family info, if you're interested. You probably have a lot of the same stuff on James Coile's line, but I might be able to fill in some blanks on my side of the family.

Regards,
Deb

Hi Deb,

Yes, we did exchange emails a few years back. I had to take some time off from genealogy research but now I'm trying to get back up to speed. I'm trying to gather and organize the information I have so I can make some sense of it. I also replied to a message you left on the yahoo message board for Kile, Coile, etc. I wish we had stayed in touch so we could have met when you were here. I have also been to the Coile's Grove Cemetery, and I tried to transcribe the headstones, but I want to go back and take pictures.

I got a call from a guy in Winterville who is a descendant of Warren Coile and he suggested to me that James and Warren were brothers. His last name is not Coile, so I don't think his DNA would help. I find out if he has a male Coile relative that could be tested. He is supposed to be sending me (by mail) some of his genealogy information. Like you said, it makes sense, but there is also a lot that doesn't make sense (like why was Warren born in VA). I don't think James was the first generation in America. On one of the censuses they ask if parents were foreign born, and it said no for James.

I would appreciate any information you can provide, and I will be glad to share with you as well. I think I have made up my mind to do the DNA test, I just have to get it ordered. It takes 7 weeks once they get the sample back.

It's good to hear from you again!

Tim

I am looking for a William Coile, possibly born in the 1940's or 1950's. I am not sure if he lived in Minnesota but would have been in Little Falls area in the late 60's and early 70's
