Seeking Scots Relatives of Scots Coias

Hello

My name is Albert Coia and I was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1948. My fathers name was Nicholas and my mothers name was Rose Murphy. My grandfather was also called Nicholas and was born in Filignano, Molise, Italy. I had relatives of my father called Valerio also from Glasgow. Had an uncle Joseph in Rutherglen and an aunt Denise in Filignano with whom I lost touch when my father died in 1956.
Would appreciate hearing from any other Italo-Scots or possible relations descended from the families in Filignano. I now reside in Washington DC in the USA. My e-mail is albertcoia@aol.com or you may reach me through the message board.

Ciao

Albert

My father Tonino was born in Lanark but was sent Italy at a very young age until about twenty.
My mother is Scottish and i am one of five all born in Ayr
I left Scotland in 1961 for Australia and now living in New zealand where there are only six soon to be seven Coias in NZ
I am planning to got to Italy to trace my fathers life so looking to spend at least a month there but still trying to find out more about best place to stay and still be central to search area.
I can remember my father taking me to Glasgow and into the old Italian grocery stores and the wonderful smells there.
I understand that there little or no Coias left in Filignano all have left there. However my oldest son went there and he and his girlfriend were hitching back to Rome and were given a lift by a woman and her daughter and there name was Coia

I knew a Ronald Gusto Coia who would now be around 62 years old. He was raised in Glasgow. His father was from, I believe, Naples. His mother was English. I met him in London in the late 60's where he was working as an accountant. Since I am returning to London for a visit, I have thought of looking him up. Is he in your database?

Sorry, but do not recognise Ronald Gusto Coia. My branch of the Coia's came from Filignano, not Naples and married into Scots families. Sorry

Hi Arthur

Not sure if you will get this reply. I have just found the original posting by Ann about my dad, Gusto Ronald Coia ("Ronnie" as he is known) and have replied to her. Although you hadn't heard of my Dad, it sounds like he may actually be a distant relative of yours after all. Although Ann said Naples, his family is also from Filignano originally. Most of his family are indeed based up in Glasgow , we are the 'London branch' so to speak!
