Surnames: Cohee / Cohea
My gggrandfather, Charles Cohee, was from Mississippi. He may have been born in 1810. He was black, Chickasaw and Scottish. His wife's name was Mary. In 1837 they removed to Oklahoma Indian Territory on the Trail of Tears. I believe (suspect) he was the son of one Perry Cohee (or Cohea) of Maury Co. TN and later of Jackson, MS.

Any information would be appreciated.

I don't think that I'm related to any of the names that you have named, but I am an black person that has Cohea for a last name, and would really like to know who the rest of my family are.

An ancestor of my husband's family married a Sandy Cohea in Lawrence Co, MS. They had a son, John who had a son Frank. Sandy may have been a slave of G.J. Cohea in Lawrence Co.

Hello!
I am also researching the Sandy Cohea family, as my ancestor Sophronia "Fronie" Barnes was also married to him. If I am correct, your husband's ancestor was Rebecca Haywood, Sandy Cohea's first wife, who may have died from complications following the birth of her last child around 1880-1 (the baby died the following year). She had a son from her previous marriage named John Haywood. I haven't traced that line of the family any further, but have more so been looking for information on Sophronia, whose son (from a previous marriage) Calvin Barnes is my great-grandfather.

I have found the cemetery where Sandy, Rebecca, Sophronia, and some of their children are buried on findagrave.com. I hope that you are still checking mail on this, as I would love to chat further with you!

Best regards,
Renee
Great-great-granddaughter of Sophronia Barnes Cohea (also spelled "Cohee"), 2nd wife of Sandy Cohea.
