Surnames: SCOTT, CARROLL, REGAN, MAHONEY, COHAN, LYNCH, COSTIGAN, MOORE
Searching for Co. Cork and MA / RI info on George M COHAN's great-grandparents: William SCOTT [b. 1774 Ire - d 1858 MA] and wife Jane CARROLL [b. __ Ire.- d.__unk.loc.]. One or both may have been Catholic; may have immig.1830's-50's to Boston MA or RI.

Their three known SCOTT daughters, birth order unknown:
1) Mary SCOTT (b.__ Ire - d.__ loc?); mar. 1820's-30's?, possibly W or NW Co. Cork, to James / Daniel REGAN (_b. Ire - _d. unk.). Did they stay in Ire, or immigrate to USA or elsewhere? 3 known children:
Their 2 sons bapt. Inchigeelagh RC parish, Co. Cork: Daniel REGAN 1835, and John REGAN 1837.
Their dau Margaret REGAN (no bapt. found; b ca. 1843 Co. Cork -1921 WI); mar in Co. Cork [loc. not found] to Cornelius MAHONEY (1837 bapt. Inchigeelagh, Co. Cork - 1906 WI); Margaret, Con and most of their children immig "late" to McHenry Co. IL 1880's. [My line, many descendants.]

2) Jane or Johanna SCOTT, (b. ca. 1817 Co. Cork - d. 18 May 1897 Springfield, Hampden Co. MA), must have immig. "early" probably late 1830's - early 1840's, to MA; she married twice.
Jane's 1st mar, Ire or MA? to: Michael COHAN or KEOHANE (b. ca.1811 Co. Cork - d. 1859 Springfield, Hampden Co. MA), tailor.
Jane & Michael had at least 6 children: Hannah COHAN (b ca. 1841/2 Ire or MA?); Mary J. COHAN (b ca. 1842/3 Boston, MA) [mar. 1861 to John A. LYNCH Springfield MA]; Jeremiah J. COHAN (1848 - 1917), Civil War orderly, vaudeville entertainer MA, RI & CT [mar 1874 to Ellen COSTIGAN Providence RI]; Michael COHAN (b 29 Oct 1853 Boston MA); Dennis COHAN (b 27 Feb 1856 Providence RI); John COHAN (b 1858? - d 1859/60 Springfield MA).
One of Jeremiah & Nellie's sons was George M. COHAN, entertainer, songwriter & Broadway producer. Need info on other descendants.
Jane /Johanna's 2nd mar, 13 Oct 1869 Springfield MA to: Bartholomew HOWARD (b.ca.1813 Ire - d. 26 Oct 1898 MA)
No known children, but stepchildren from Bartholomew's first marriage.

3) Catherine SCOTT (b. Mar 1825 Co. Cork - d. after 1900? prob. San Francisco CA). Immig. "early" to Boston MA, late 1840's? On 7 Feb 1848, in Roxbury, Suffolk Co. MA, Catherine mar. Henry James MOORE (b Ire, poss. Dublin, ca.1826 - d 1886 San Francisco CA). Family moved to San Francisco CA early 1850's.
Their children included: Anne MOORE b 1848 MA; Thomas H. MOORE b 1855/6 CA; Josephine MOORE b 1858/9 CA; Henry S. MOORE b 1861/2 CA; William R. MOORE b 1863/64 CA; and Mary Frances MOORE b 1865/6 CA.
George M. COHAN visited Catherine & her descendants.

Theory: William SCOTT and Jane CARROLL may have had at least one son, who may also have immigrated to MA, RI, or elsewhere in US. Has anyone done any immig./naturalization research on COHAN and SCOTT families from Co. Cork in MA or RI? Need more dates, places, & suggestions to sort them all out.
Happy to share and discuss any of this. Thanks! Barb Glassel

Hi Barb,
I am related to Geo m.'s 2nd wife Agnes Nolan, her mom was
Mary Brown. Who was my g-dad's 1st cousin. I have contacted
a living descendant of G.M.'s but she is un-cooperative.
Her name is Mary Ronkin Ross. They live on Long Island, NY.
There is a lot on G.M.'s work but little on his family life.
The Nolan's lived in Brookline, MA, John was a letter carrier and they had 18 children. 15 of which lived to be adults. John was fired from his job for drinking on the job,
a MA congressman called President T. Roosevelt and T.R. called the Poatmaster in Boston and told him to rehire John,
which he did of course. John never part took in a friendly
pint in the afternoon again.
G.M. had 4 children by 2 wives, Sarah "Ethel Levey," a famous actress/comedienne of the late 1800's, married and had a daughter Georgette b. 1900 in NY. They divorced in 1907. Married Agnes Mary Nolan a show girl in one of his Broadway shows. m. 29 Jun 1907, Freehold, Monmouth Co., NJ, Mary Ellen Cohan, b. 22 Jun 1908, NY. Helen Francis Cohan, b. 1911 in NYC, NY. George Michael cohan, Jr., b. 1914, NYC, NY.
Agnes's sister Alice, married Sam Harris, George's partner

G G Grandson of Catherine Scott Moore, cousin of George M. Cohan.
Catherine migrated to San Francisco with husband and daughter, Annie, in late 1850s. Henry James Moore was a plumber and worked in the San Francisco Mint. Catherine died in August 1905. Unable [as yet] to locate cemetery where she was interred. Her youngest son, William Richard Moore, died with a few days of his mother - August, 1905. Daughter [my G grandmother], Josephine Scott Moore, was a pianist and taught piano for many years in San Francisco. Catherine's and her sister, Jane, and perhaps others of their family, emigrated from Ireland to Massachusetts in about 1846-1848 during the Irish potato famine.
