John
Finally, someone is researching this name that is found nowhere else but Ballinasloe.

My husband's grandmother is Eliz. Cogavin b.12/2/1868 according to bapt. records and 1869 according to records in MA.
Her parents were Michael Lucy Egan Cogavin. She married in Roxbury, MA to a Edward Cox m. Jan12, 1892 then widowed. 2nd marriage to Edwin T. Hand, painter of Roxbury. m. 12/17/1901.

Town of B'sloe Griff Val. 1854 shows Michael Cogvin living at #8 Harbour Lane. (we have gone there and seen the house)

Eliz. Edwin had 3 children. Edwin died as child in Roxbury after falling out of window. Robert died in the US Army. and Olive Rosemary married James Arthur Donnelly of Roxbury and had 7 children..

In 1981 upon returning from Athlone to Mt. Bellew we came down the Athlone Rd. through B'sloe. On the left side I noticed "Cogavin's Pub", needless to say we made a stop. We met a very elderly gentleman all decked out in tie and suit doing bookkeeping for the pub. He was a Cogavin. He said that my husband looked just like Ben Cogavin who lived in the area. To make a long story short, we wrote to Ben and his wife they sent me the birth cert. of Elizabeth.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

My husband is a proud Cogavin and can't believe we found this on the internet. Would
you be willing to share more info. The name
isn't that common and we met some relatives
over in Ireland. We were at the farm in Tulrush Galway--I'm unsure if this is the same group--PLEASE write back or call 973-616-3314

Tulrush is in the parish of Creagh in Co. Roscommon. While it is near the border with Co. Galway, Tulrush is not in that county. Mr. Dwyer and I both have some knowledge of the Cogavins of Tulrush.
