Surnames: Cogan/Koocken
I am Rozina Cogan's granddaughter. The Cogan name was originally spelled "Koocken" and has several variations. Johannes Koocken was a saddlemaker and I have located records for a Lambertus Koocken, saddlemaker, in Heusden, Holland, during the 1700s. However, other accounts say that the Koockens were French Huegenots who had emigrated to Holland and this is also possible. The first Cogan of this line in Ohio was John and his son Micheal was a blacksmith at Bowerston.

I found your information in this reply interesting. I have researched the Kooken line extensively and thought that your line of Cogan must tie in-- but can't find proof. Is there any family data to tie John back into the Kookens of PA? Contact me at tek108@comcast.net or reply to board. I have a lot on your line.
