Moses was listed as Cochran in Yorkshire, NY. He died in 1851 at age 41. In the 1850 Census, he gave his bp as NH. He had wife, Lydia; sons, Girden, and Irving; and daughter, Adelaide. In 1860 Lydia was listed with her 2nd husband, Samuel Eastland, with her 3 children. In 1870 Irving's name is spelled "Capron". In History of Cattaraugus Co. Jacob Cochran came with several other men from NH around 1804. He was "a young man, not yet out of his teens". Apparently he remained in Yorkshire for about 2 years, then left to return to NH. Several years later he returned with his wife, Rebecca, and son. Believe that the son was probably Moses, who was born in 1810. He, his wife, and "children" moved to "Genesee County". No further information was given.
Apparently the Cochran's, from NH had already started to change the name to "Cofran". Believe it was Samuel Cochran who changed it first, and his descendands followed suit. I would have to look that up. I have it in my files, but not right at my fingertips.
Hope this helps. I would really like to solve this puzzle.
