re: Tn Coffelts, Van Buren
I am searching to find how my Coffelts fit into to the family. I know my great great grandfather was Van Coffelt (appr. 1895-1940). He married Bice Braden. They lived in the Battle Creek area of Marion Co. Tn. Van and Bice had the following children: Caleb (married George Washington Birdwell), Frank Milton (married Viola), Maggie Emaline (married John Marion Copeland), Virgie (married Dudley Rector),and Sarah Bell (married John Wesley Birdwell, Sr.)
Van had a sister Mattie E. (married a Walter Balew) and a brother John R. (b. April 1891) who married Jenny Frank (Ne)Smith.
I believe Van's parents were James and Almedia Coffelt. No dates for either. With possible parents for them being Issac and Rachel Coffelt. Again no certainty or dates.
I would appreciate any info or resources you might suggest.

Ginger, there was a Van Coffelt in the Grundy Co Tn census. Part of Grundy co was either changed to or part of Marion Co Tn.

Your message #62 Coffelts
Ginger, I believe after reading you message that you may be in the line of Coffelts that I am in.
Isaac Coffelt, born 1798, worked for the county when he lived in Marion County, TN. Phillip Coffelt, born 1801, stayed in Marion County, TN. and his grandson, Wesley Coffelt and his family still live near the town of Laager. Now, one of Isaac Coffelt's sons, Wilson Franklin, born 1831, settled in Sevierville, Tennessee where he was a blacksmith. His children are Jim, Ellon, Eliza Jane, ISAAC, Columbus, Joe, John and Saphrona. So, I believe you are in the Wilson Franklin Coffelt line. Wilson Franklin is my G.G.Grandfather. Joe Martin Coffelt, born 6/7/1890, is my Grandfather who lived at Powels Crossroads,TN. There is a Genalogy book by the name of Times and Lives of Some Coffelts in America that you might want to order as it tells about where the Coffelts came form etc. Just send $15.00 to Coffelt Publishing Co. 1610 Redwood Lane, Davis, CA.,95616. I believe you will enjoy every page of the 259 pages in the book. My mother was a Coffelt and I grew up in Whitwell. Take Care
