I am trying to find documentation on my family. I have found my great-great grandfather William W. Coffelt (b. June 1842 in TN) married to Martha A. Anderson in 1900 Marion County, TN Census.

I beleive he is the son of Philip Coffelt(1804) and grandson of Daniel Coffelt(1770). Does anyone have information linking these names?

Do you know anything about multiple births in the Phillip and Eleanor (Nelley) Coffelt line? They had twins, John and Henry, and six generations later, their 4th great granddaughter, Ethel Coffelt Koelling gave birth to triplets. I have her direct line, but don't know about the siblings of that line. Do some of you have Coffelt records of multiple births?

Twins, triplets, quadruplets, etc. are the result of multiple ovulations (fraternal siblings) or division of embryonic cells very early in development (identical siblings). In either case this is determined by the mother's genetic and physical makeup. Any tendencies toward multiple ovulation or hormonal conditions that would cause cell division would be passed along the maternal lines- not the paternal ones. If you are looking for "twins that run in the family" check back the female lineage- ie- mother-grandmother, great-grandmother-etc.
Furthermore, sixth generation descendants of Philip and Nellie Coffelt would only carry one thirty second part of Philip OR Nellie's genetic makeup. There would be thirty one other people in that generation of a sixth generation descendant who contributed the traits of their great-great-great-great granchildren. There is nothing mystical or magical about the name line itself that overshadows the contribution of all our other ancestors.

I know there are at least two or three sets of twins in John's line. John's daughter Mary Elizabeth Coffelt married Benjamin Franklin Ragsdale and a couple of their children and grandchildren had twins.
