Surnames: Cofell, Mains, Badder, Naish
I posted a reply to another thread, but thought I'd start my own as well.

I'm researching my great grandmother, Eliza Cofell, aka Marguerite. She was born in Canada to William Sherman Cofell and Eliza Belle Badder in 1885. Before coming to the US she bounced around a couple other families (her mother died shortly after she was born, and William Sherman Cofell apparently abandoned her), one of which started calling her Marguerite. She ended up in Jackson, Michigan, married to my great grandfather, Orson William Mains. Orson passed away in 1954. Eliza passed away in March of 1974, after having getting remarried about a month before to Henry G. Holdridge.

I've managed to get my hands on a photocopied transcription of Eliza's memoir. But I'd really like to learn more about her and her ancestors. I know that Eliza Badder's parents were James Badder and Jane Naish.

Eliza "Margurite" Cofell: 03 Aug 1885 - 12 Mar 1974; immigrated to the US in 1908.

William Sherman Cofell: 30 Nov 1839 - 27 Jul 1906; I haven't started researching him yet.
Eliza Belle Badder: 01 Jul 1843 - 05 Sep 1885.

James Badder - birth/death dates unknown, supposedly born in England.
Jane Naish - birth/death dates unknown, supposedly born in England.

If this info lines up with anything anybody else has, please let me know - I'd love to compare notes!

If you wish to correspond regarding the Cofell clan I would be willing to do so. I believe you have already seen my tree however and can likely get all information I have at this time from it. My great grandmother was Elsie Jane Cofell, who was a older sister to Eliza Marguerite Cofell. I will check out my tree...........maybe I have questions for you regarding Marguerite.
Contact me any time you wish to.

My name Lonnie Cofell From North Dakota. I have been told the story of William Sherman Abandoned her. I Was told Wlliam could not support all the children he had so he placed her on a orphan train. Well as story when the train reach it as far as ticket called for a Person who picked her up got her a return ticket and sent her back to reunite with her family again. That is all I know. Not a very good thing in my mind, but people did that a lot back then. Put kids on orphan trains so people elsewhere could and would adopt them for farm help or other reasons. Write back back if interested in more ancestry I give you what I got. Just ask and tell what else you are looking for.
