I have many de la Fuente ancestors. They were Sephardic Jews and started out in either Spain or Portugal. I have not as yet suceeded in finding the ones who left. They moved to the Netherlands; don't know when. Some of them were married in England, some in the the Netherlands. There was a group who moved to England; some of whom went on to the USA. I have heard from a David de la Fuente in England.
My group of de la Fuente's went from the Netherlands to Suriname; at least two were in the Dutch Colonial Army. My Father was born in Suriname and moved to the USA after WWII (he had an American Father). There was also another group who went from Suriname to Haiti to the USA. Some of them may have gone to Canada from there.
I have seen Henriques as a part of a compound last name. For example, some of my de la Fuente's were really Henriques de la Fuente, where "Henriques de la Fuente" was the whole last name. I have a book which lists Sephardi marriages in Amsterdam and Henriques appears alot as parts of last names. It may be that your ancestor was one of those "Henriques de la Fuente" people.
My cousin has a web site where you can see many de la Fuente names in our genealogy. Go to:
www.mostyn.comand click on "Mother's Family".
If any of this sounds familiar to you, please let me know. Many of the de la Fuente's in my tree had large families, and there could be a connection.
