I have a Manuel Coelho born about 1875 in Portugal (Azores- San Miguel) who came to Hawaii in 1883, married a Scholastica possibly Robello. He was the son of Antone Coelho who also came to Hawaii in 1883. On the 1910 census of Hawaii he was 78 years old and widowed.

Ola, Sandi! Just noted your submission of a year ago! There was a Jacintho de Rego Coelho living in Laupahoehoe, Hawaii in 1930. He had come from Lagoa (Rosario), Sao Miguel, Azores with Maria Conceicao de Rego Lopes. Jacintho was the son of Jose de Rego Coelho and Ellen Carolina de Rego both of Lagoa. Jacintho had 6 children--Joe; Mary; Antone; John; Virginia and Margaret. Jacintho, however, could have been a brother and it would be thus worth looking through LDS film that have been made covering the three different parishes of Lagoa. Check with the closest Family History Center (LDS Church) in your area. The staff would be able to order the film for you. You may call the Portuguese Genealogical Society of Hawaii at (808) 841-5044 and seek assistance with respect to ships'logs! Good luck! Ron

It's possible I have information for you, but I am not sure. Can you give me the names of Maria and Vincent's children?
|
I too am looking for my husband's relatives. Most of the children were born in or around the San Jose Mission in Calif. There were 10 or 11 children and his great grandfather was from the island of Pico in the Azores. His great grandmother was possibly a Perry. Thanks for any help in advance.

I would be most interested in what you have on Manuel R. Coelho and Scholastica Robello. These are the names of my husbands grandparents. Their daughter, Marian Coelho married Joao (John) A. Costa. I believe Scholastica Robello's father was Manuel Robello b.abt 1859 in Portugal. Living with his brother-in-law, Manual R. Coelho in the 1820 census. These families immigrated from Portugal/Azores to Hawaii.

I have the Coelho line back to about 1720. Which one of the children of Manuel Coelho and Scholastica Robello is your husband descended from?
|
Susan, check the 1910 census and you will find the Coelho, Robello and Phillip families all living in the same house. The family did come from the Azores to Hawaii, and some went to California. You may contact me privately.
|
Sandi, I have the same family. Her name was in reality not do Carmo. That's just one of the quirks of doing hispanic/portuguese genealogy. I do have the line followed back into the Azores. You may contact me privately if you would like Gerry
