Trying to find traces of gggrandfather

Trying to find traces of gggrandfather

Posted: 11 Jul 2001 4:05PM GMT
Surnames: Coddington, Codington
this may be a forlorn hope but!
Has anyone a family history or family story that may include a Frank Codington (Coddington) Who may have arrived in the USA not long after 1882.
Frank was a bookkeeper by profession and a well educated man for the time.
He was born in 1860 in Sheffield, England and his father was William Codington his mother Ann
He was on the run from England but was still using his real name when he wrote to my gggranmother when he was in the USA
Does this sound like anyone in your Family if so I would like to hear from you
Thanks in advance
Paul Coddington

Paul,
What were his wife's and children's names? I.e. facts? Death place and date? At least 40 Franks are known.

His Wife and children, were left behind in England, If he aquired anymore I'm not aware of them because he stopped writing. The date and place of his death again is unknown as he disappeared from his family over here. So as you can see I have little to go on just that he left Sheffield, England in a hurry and that he wrote to my GG Grandmother 3 or 4 times from the United States before all contact ceased. I was hoping to gather as much information as possible in the hopes of finding out what happened too him

Sorry left out the little I do know he was born 1861 in Sheffield, England...not sure when he went off to the States but by 1891 was gone from the England census, My great Grandfather was born in 1882 so he was around then, If I remember the story I was told correctly my GGrandfather was about 3 so that narrows his arrival in the US too after 1885...oh and the spelling of the surname was Codington back then and as the family were all literate and variations in spelling didn't occur from them I must assume he was still spelling it with the single D...thanks for your reply by the way..
