Cobaughs of Cambria County
Hi, looking for anyone who might have the Cobaugh name in their tree with ancestors from Cambria County, PA (Johnstown).
Would love to compare notes and find some distant cousins who are also descendants.
My main point of reference (confirmed) is Daniel Cobaugh (1800-1877) who married Nancy Goughnour (1805-1872).
Daniel's son Philip Cobaugh married Sophia Albaugh/Allbaugh.
if you're in/around Cambria County or have Cobaughs in your tree, would like to compare notes.
Thanks!

Re: Cobaughs of Cambria County
I'm also descended from Daniel Cobaugh --> Susannah Cobaugh --> Daniel Webster Grove --> Jerry (Jeremiah) Grove --> Noralie Grove Belk.
I've hit road blocks on going any further back on Daniel Cobaugh, and on my paternal great (4) grandfather George Grove (1785 - ?) as well.

Re: Cobaughs of Cambria County
Hi,
I've been able to find one more generation back to David Frederick Cobaugh, Daniel's father, and mother Susana Shuraugh.
I believe the wall is b/c David Frederick (also known as Frederick) was born in Switzerland. I haven't delved into researching in Europe yet, so not sure what's ahead in that regard!
If you check out Google Books, there is a book that is about Fayette County but that mentions David Frederick Cobaugh. See "Genealogical and Personal history of Fayette County Pennsylvania, Volume 1" and check out page 93 (pg 93 of the book, not sure what image # it is) and you'll see him mentioned.

Re: Cobaughs of Cambria County
My grandparents are also Jerry Davis Grove and Olga Vivian Brandt through their son Jay Roy Grove. Unfortunately I know very little about my father or his family. Recently I have begun to research this side of my family tree and have run into the same walls that you have with George Grove and David Frederick Cobaugh. I have had much more success with Goughnour and Benchoff branches of the Jerry Davis Grove’s Family Tree. I also have been able to learn quite a bit about Olga Vivian Brandt’s ancestors not so much through the Brandt or Huber branches but rather through the Highlands and Peebles who were early settlers of Southhampton Township, Cumberland County, PA. I would love to trade information with you. From putting together your other posts, I suspect that you are Eric Scott Belk. Since we share the same grandparents that would make us 1st cousins and Jay Roy Grove your Uncle. In addition to searching through all the paper trails, I have also begun to delve into molecular genealogy based on DNA analysis to see how we fit into the Grove and/or Groffs that settled in New Holland before moving to the Cumberland Valley south of Chambersburg. Most likely this was in concert with other members of the Dunkard Church.
