Hi my name is Lisa Cobane. I am from Co.Tyrone Northern Ireland. I am just wondering if anyone would like to get in touch with me if they are from Northern Ireland or have originated from there . I am just curious and interested.

Hi Lisa, my ancestors came from Co Tyrone, Ireland to Australia in the 1850's. They used both the Cobane surname and the Cobain surname.

Hi Jan
My grandmother was born Annie Cobain in Orritor, Co Tyrone in 1906. Her father was called William Cobain and was a farmer. I wondered if that linked to any information you had on your family.

My ancestors came to Australia in the 1850's from Co. Tyrone. There may be a connection as both names William and Annie were names used in the original family who immigrated here.
However, I have no information to link them at the moment.
Cheers Jan

My great-great grandmother Elizabeth (or Eliza) Cobane came from County Tyrone. From what i know from family lore is that she an away from an arranged marriage and earned her passage by repairing sails on the ship. She also brought a sister with her. This would have been in the 1850s. I don't know the name of the town she lived in. I do know she was Protestant. She named her children Evalinda Jane, Samuel, Avery, and Oliver. Cobane is an uncommon name over here - i wonder if it is more common in Tyrone/Ulster.

My mother was Jessie Cobane, daughter of George K. Cobane - both born in NY. George K. Cobane's father ?Thomas? from Co. Tyrone?

Re: Cobanes from Ireland to New York
Rosemary,
I received a message from you but a computer glitch won't let me reply directly. Yes I'm interested in your Cobanes from Ireland to New York. Were Thomas Cobane and Charlotte Anderson from County Tyrone? Several cousins and I (including Jan Hunt who responded to you on this message board) have been researching southern Co. Tyrone Cobanes.

Hi Jan,
My father, Irwin (Goes by Irish) Cobane was born and raised in County Tyrone in SixMileCross outside Carrickmore. He has 9 brothers and sisters, half of whom are still in Northern Ireland and the rest immigrated to the U.S. during the 1970's - 1980's.
