Hello,

I am researching my Williams/Hebert family of Plaquemine/Iberville/Louisana. In doing so, I learned from marriage licenses and census that there were Coakley relatives who married a Williams who I believe is my relative.

This is what I have managed to gather so far:

July and Hannah Coakley had three children according to the 1870 and 1880 census, Isaac, Jackson, and Rachel. Phoebe and Mack Coakley were listed but do not show a relationship. There were probably more children but they may have married since this was from the 1870 and 1880 census. The 1870 census list Hannah's name as Emma. July was born abt 1826. Hannah was born abt 1830.

July's birthplace and his parent's birthplace is listed as South Carolina. But there is another record that shows his place of birth as Kentucky.

Isaac Coakley married Lettie (Letty) Williams 2/20/1875 Iberville, Louisiana. Letty Williams is my relative from what I can tell. They had ten children: Dora, Mary, William, Clara, Ozelia, Olivia, Regina, Rachel, Benjamin, and Edward.

Jackson Coakley (Cokely/Kokely) married Susan Hays (Hayes) 1/28/1886 Iberville, Louisiana

I am still trying to find marriage information on Rachel and Phoebe.

When I researched this family in Kentucky, there were numerous Coakleys but I was specifically focused on July Coakley in the hopes of finding him or other relatives to make the connection with my Louisiana family. Here’s what I found:

There was a Jane Coakley born abt 1820 with a son named July born abt 1856 on the 1870 Green, Kentucky census. Jane also had two daughters Sally and Elizabeth listed on the census.

I am assuming July could have been Jane son’s father. He may have married Jane prior to going to Louisiana and marrying Hannah. Additionally, this is not a common name so it may be a strong possibility this is the person I am looking for.

I cannot find my July on any census in Louisiana prior to 1870. If he was in fact married to Jane, it would have been in Kentucky and I would need to locate the 1860 census to determine if he and Jane are listed with July. Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate one as of this date.

There also was a Payton Coakley born abt 1846 who is related to this family but I have not yet managed to make the connection as to who were his parents. However, according to the 1900 census his father was born in Kentucky and his mother was born in Georgia.

Because Payton was born abt 1846 I know I will not be able to locate him on any census prior to 1870. I do, however, have him listed on the 1880 census with wife Eveline (Evelyn)

I have other Coakley marriages and other Coakley information that I have not listed here but am willing to share.

If anyone has any information that may help me with making the connection between this family and my family, I would greatly appreciate it.
