Re: Coady family of Fennor, Rathbeg & Urlingford area.
Dear Patzy and Philippa, I have wanted to respond to your messages for the past few months and have waited till information might appear which could link my family. I am a Coady / Cody relation, that were from Cashel, The Rock, and Thurles. My great Grandfather was called James Coady b 1859ish who married1881 a Bridget Fitzpatrick b 1863. They had 9 girls and three boys only one survived. James's father was called Thomas I have no more information at this point on him.The names of the girls list as Anne, Elizabeth, Bridget, Catherine, Jean, Ellen, Mary, Mary Ellen, Hanna? Boys list as: Thomas, John, Christopher(called Joseph) I will say that The Cody's lived at a farm 'Bohemore'in Cashel see 'Grittiths Valuation'This dwelling no longer exists it has bungalows on it now.(I had a chat with someone else researching coady's in the Cashel area , we began talking about the coady's / cody's split in the name, it could be due to distiguising a first marriage and second marriage - the second marriage family inherited the family money and the first did not but that is a rumour.) At the moment I have not fully connected to them still searching. I would like to know if any of you can connect my Gt.grandfather James Coady/Cody to a Thomas Coady / Cody. I wondered who the brothers of Michael Coady were? James was born around 1859, I think he may have had a sister or aunt called Bridget. Can any of you link to this info.

Re: Coady family of Fennor, Rathbeg, Gortnahoe & Urlingford area.
Jim:
My name is Dan Flanagan and I reside here in Austin, TX.
My Flanagan family moved to New Brunswick between 1823 and 1826, lived there until 1830, at which time they moved to Stoneham, north of Quebec City. One of these kids, Bridget Flanagan, married a Coady.
So . . . do you have any Flanagans in your family tree or did any of your Coadys move to near Quebec City?
Thanks in advance, Dan

Re: Coady family of Fennor, Rathbeg & Urlingford area.
Hi Janice, yes, I've been looking at your posts and it seems likely that there is a connection with Patzy's and your rellies but without all my papers I can't put my finger on the common denominator. I am based in Dublin next to the National Archives, so I need to pull my finger out and get cracking again! If I can verify anything for you via the National Archives or any of the resources in Dublin, feel free to contact me offlist. I am often in Tipperary so I'll keep in touch if I find anything interesting. I'm hoping to nail some of the Parish records in Fethard this summer as I think there's a lot there not properly searched although I did trawl them once. Don't worry about the Cody/Coady spelling. Nine times out of ten this was due to the fact that the people who registered the birth couldn't read/write well or at all and the spelling was done according to how the Parish Priest recorded it in the Parish records. In my family history I have found both variations. Cheers Philippa

Re: Coady family of Fennor, Rathbeg, Gortnahoe & Urlingford area.
Hey Dan,
I have not found the name Flanagan in my family tree. I cannot account for about half of my g-g-grandfather's siblings, so I am not sure if any moved to Quebec.

Re: Coady family of Fennor, Rathbeg & Urlingford area.
I have traced a number of Coady's , however not sure of the linkage other than the fact that many first born boys were named after their Father. I have Richard Coady, Ballycrony,Glenmore,co Kilkenny,b about 1835-40 married a Catherine Holden with daughter Mary b.08/04/1860 Also Richard Coady b about 1840-45 married Mary(Maria) Dunphy , Oldcourt,Inistogue,Co Kilkenny with daughter Mary b 24/06/1865

I have a RICHARD COADY and wife CATHERINE MOORE of Ireland. Children of RICHARD COADY and CATHERINE MOORE are: MICHAEL COADY, b. 1808, Ireland; d. 1873, Ontario, Canada. Other siblings known are JOHN COADY, PATRICK COADY, and MARY COADY. MICHAEL COADY (my ggg grandfather) came to N. America prior to the birth / christening of a son THOMAS COADY, b. September 16, 1842, Syracuse, N.Y. USA. The christening document names the witnesses as Thomas Coady (possibly a brother to Michael) and Bridget Hoolihan. Michael and Catherine made there home in Wellington County, Ontario, Canada. I am trying to find ships records and their home town in Ireland. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Fred Coady

Hello,
I am a great great grandson of Thomas, through his dau. Margaret. There is a short family history in the Wellington Co museum in Elora. Apparently Micheal had another brother, Thomas, who was a witness to his nephew's baptism in Syracuse.
I am interested in how you obtained the names of Michael's parents. regards, Paul McCorkindale

Hello Paul, You must be a grandson of Patrick James McElroy and Margaret Theresa Coady. I am a grandson of Michael Andrew Coady (brother to Margaret). I obtained the names of Michael's parents from Michael's death record located at the Church in Guelph. Please send me your email address and we can discuss further. Regards, Fred & Lynda Coady

Re: Coady family of Fennor, Rathbeg & Urlingford area.
My Richard Coady would have been born around 1780. His son Michael was living in Canada as early as 1845.
Sorry that I can't be of any further help.
regards, Paul
