Tangle in NSW - TURNER vs HINCE
This is an old puzzle now - but I am trying to clear up the NSW Coads and although they are not so numerous, there is quite a tangle there regarding the ten children of a William and Mary Coad - can see two or three completely different trees out there.
Firstly - William John Coad married Mary Turner in Sydney 1879. He is said to be W J 1842 Liskeard, son of John Coad 1810 Plymouth the plasterer.
In the meantime we have William Edward Coad 1855-1910, probably the son of Peter and Rosevia, who deserted his wife Matilda Russell in SA, married Mary Ann Hince in Rockhampton 1885 (apparently bigamously) had a son William Peter Coad in 1890 Queensland, then turned up in Sydney and according to some started having many more children
So which William and Mary Coad are the parents of
Elizabeth, b 1880 Wm John, b 1883 Frances M, b 1886 Alice M, b 1888
Charles S, b 1891 d 1965 m Eileen Maude Lyons, 1912 Henry E, b 1893 d 1931, m Margaret M Boyce, 1916 Lilly F, b 1896 Besse V, b 1904 Arthur Victor, b 1898 d 1965, m Josephine M King, 1922 Robert Walter, b 1899 d 1966, m Lucy May Harper Ford, 1927
Has anyone successfully divided these children between the two couples? The first four must be William John + Mary, and are listed as such. The last 5 are [William and Mary A] so appear to be teh second couple. Charles is uncertain
Eddy O'Leary I see already ran this tangle past me here back in 2007, when the Coad project was just starting out.

TROVE is a great new resource if you can plow through it. Found the following which shows the living children of Mary Ann Hince in 1931.

Re: Tangle in NSW - TURNER vs HINCE
Hi Dulcie, I am a COADE grandson but not from your lot. I'm putting together a complete history of the COAD surname.
There are two Mary Ann Hinces of the right age, one from Kent, one from Worcester. Do you have proof she was the one born in Upper Arley Worcester, that would be appreciated
I dont have Albert Ernest or Charles, Ill see if I can find them. I have a William Peter Coad born 1890 Gympie Qld and married in Waterloo 1910 - you say he is not one of yours?
Best regards and thanks very much

Re: Tangle in NSW - TURNER vs HINCE
Hi Joe, I noticed that you are working on the name Coade. My great-aunt in Doris Sidwell Coade Aljoe. She was born Dec 1898 in London. Her father was James Wood Coade, born Dec 1855. His father, James, was born in 1826. He was an engineer for the Royal Navy. Doris married Robert Harold Aljoe, born 1895 in Durham, Ontario, Canada. Uncle Harold was a dentist in WW1 and met Doris in London. Harold's sister, Annie Ruth Aljoe, is my grandmother. She was born Jan 1893. Her father was Robert, born 1856. His father, Robert, was 1825 Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland. His father, Robert, was born 1785 County Donegal, Ireland. I visited with Doris twice. Wonderful person.
Are you related to this family? Gail Nolan ( gael81)
