How Can There Be So Many Cmejlas I Do Not Know About???
This surname is just so rare that I have to believe that anyone with this name has to be related to me and my immediate family. Just want to let people know that I'm out here.

Re: How Can There Be So Many Cmejlas I Do Not Know About???
I am a Cmeyla whose grandpa must have changed name from Cmejla from Algoma Wi. If you're Michael you must be a cousin as the names Michael, Andrew, Joseph, Charles and I think Frank are frequent. These Cmeylas are up and down the Wi coast - Kewaunee, Sheboygan, Milwaukee, Algoma to name a few.

My family is indeed from Wisconsin! My father is Howard (his father was Joseph Cmejla). Must be related--at least distant relatives! Pretty cool. Not a common name around here (Florida).

Are you related to a John M. who married into my family line? He married Bertha Schmidt in 1890 in either Kewaunee or Sheboygan County. I have been unble to find them at all after that

Re: How Can There Be So Many Cmejlas I Do Not Know About???
More than likely he is a relative...the Cmejlas (some changed it to Cmeyla to avoid confusion in pronounciation) came to this country in 1857 Joseph and (can't recall wife's name at this time) two kids - Franz and Elizabeth on the ship Aequator from Bremen and settled in Wisconsin. Some names seem to be predominant in the family - Joseph, John, Charles, Frank, Michael, Andrew - I have cousins (first) with John, Joseph, Michael, Andrew. My grandfather, Charles B. came from a large family in Algoma Wisconsin. I don't know how many other kids were born to the earlier Cmejlas...but dern likley they are relatives.....Josephine...
