Hello everyone,
My name is Robert Wayne Clymo (known as Wayne)and I am a descendant of Francis Clymo and Jane Harris married in 1791 in Cambourne, Cornwall, England.
They are my g g g g grandparents (Wow 4 greats)
Raelene Prosser who has posted on this site is my first cousin. Her father, Albert Coombs Clymo b 1905 was my father's (Cyril Clymo b 1919) brother.
I was born in Sydney Australia and now live in Bathurst NSW.
I came upon this site by accident while doing a bit of research to help me write a speech to be given at my daughter's wedding on 8th Dec 2007.
Here I have discovered that I obviously have many more relations in America than the two I know, my sister who has lived there for many years and recently my daughter who is now working in NY and will return after her wedding.
Hello to all my American relatives!
Although it interests me a little I have not done any proper research of my family tree.
However, in 1979 I was fortunate to spend time in Cornwall and on a sudden whim I spent some time looking around the churches, records office and cemeteries of Cambourne and Redruth to see if I could find anything in regard to my family tree. I had not had any intention of doing so, so I had nothing to start with except some idea (though not totally clear) of names of my father's parents and grandparents and the knowledge that the family was descended from tin miners from the Cambourne district.
My wife and I just took pot luck at the time and worked out and pursued a particular line at the time. We worked out that we had quite likely found my family tree... but could not confirm the link to Australia at the time.
We looked in the phone book and picked an appropriate name (ie one that had been used in the family) and called. Sadly I cannot recall the names of the people we rang but it was an old couple. (probably then in their eighties) They were most generous and invited us to afternoon tea. We discovered that they were probably related as the old gentleman could recall that two of his (I think) grandfather's, or great grandfather's brothers had left for other countries. One to Australia and one to America.
What a stroke of luck! I now know, due to Raelene Prosser's research that we had indeed found my family line and visited with living relatives.
I guess it is a bit unfortunate that I did not know that Raelene Prosser was researching the family tree as I had made a fair quantity of notes while in Cornwall and they may have been of assistance to her and saved her some work.
I feel fortunate to have had access to the original records at a Church in Redruth, Cornwall. Yes, I actually had my hands on and turned the pages of the original, hand written, births deaths and marriages record for those times.
Most of the Church records at that time had been handed over to the Government Authorities upon request?? or decree?? BUT the Minister of that particular Church had refused to hand over the records and so they were still kept at the church. I remember finding a Clymo gravestone in the Church Cemetery and wondering if I was related to this person. It turned out that I am.
I also remember sitting in a cold dark Church one night looking through the records book. The thought that I was looking at the real records of past family made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Quite an experience!
Finding this site has prompted me to wonder about the notes I made in Cornwall. I don't believe I have them but my ex-wife may still have them. Might just ask at the wedding on Saturday!
Well that's all for now. I wish you all well!
