lillianmarshall@yahoo.comHi,
I realize this several years after you posted this query but I thought I would send you a note in hopes we might be able to connect our family trees. I highlighted the paragraph below that may be the connection. I have very little on John Clyde. I found a death certificate on his son John Joseph Clyde (my paternal grandfather). The informant who signed the certificate was Mary Clyde ( John Joseph’s mother). She stated there that she was from Brooklyn, NY.
I am looking for information regarding my ancestors who resided in Jefferson County, Missouri. I have references for them in Kimmswick, DeSoto and Rock Township. I have basically run into a dead end and am hoping to connect with someone in the area who is knowledgeable about the Clyde and Wilcox families. A distant cousin would be great.
My Great Grandfather was John Joseph Clyde. He was born July 16, 1859 (or 1858) in St. Louis County, St. Louis, Missouri. He died June 01, 1915 In DeSoto, Missouri. He married Jesse (Jessie) Virginia Wilcox. She was born in Kimmswick, Missouri on September 28, 1883. She died January 08, 1928 in DeSoto, Missouri and is also buried in the DeSoto City Cemetery.
John Joseph Clyde was the son or John Clyde born in 1835 in Ireland (possibly Scotland). This about the extent of the information I have on him with the following exception. He was married to Mary Murry who was from Brooklyn, New York. She was born in 1840. She died May 26, 1900 in DeSoto, Jefferson County, Missouri. I am uncertain where she is buried.
Jesse (Jessie) Virginia Wilcox was the daughter of John T. Wilcox. I do not have a name for her mother. I do know that she had a brother, James Henry Wilcox who was born April 14, 1844 in Kimmswick, Missouri. He died March 23, 1888 in Kimmswick, Missouri. The 1880 Census has him in Rock, Jefferson, Missouri.
My Grandmother, Jesse Jane Clyde Marshall, was the daughter of John Joseph Clyde and Jesse Virginia Wilcox Clyde. He siblings were: Edward Clyde, Joseph Dennis Clyde, George Clyde and Ruth Mae Clyde. There were at least two other siblings but they died at birth or early in years. I believe all of them were born in Kimmswick, Missouri. Jesse Jane Clyde was born September 28, 1883 in Kimmswick. She married my grandfather William Philip Marshall who worked for the railroad. He was originally from Michigan. They lived in DeSoto and had their first two children, Jessie Virginia Marshall and William Clyde Marshall in DeSoto. They moved to our hometown of Pine Bluff, Arkansas where he continued to work for the railroad until his death. They are both buried here in Pine Bluff.
Oh, I also know that Jesse Virginia Wilcox Clyde, Jessie Jane Clyde Marshall, Fay Clyde, Ruth May Clyde and some other family members were involved with the Presbyterian Church of DeSoto, Missouri. My father, Roy Kenneth Marshall was baptized there August 24, 1913.
Any information you may be able to pass on regarding my ancestors or living relatives in your area would be greatly appreciated.
