I have a friend--a grand-daughter of William Uriah Clyburn, who would be glad to hear your story. But Bill U. Clyburn was never mayor of Kershaw, which was founded only in 1888. He lived outside town, near the Haile Gold Mine. He died in 1917.

I'm a little late to the party but I am a direct decendant of William Uriah Clyburn. The question to you is which one? My Grandfather was referred to as Bill U. but he was born around 1921 and died about 2 years ago. He was either the III or IV. HIS father Charles Frank Clyburn was mayor of Kershaw at one point. CF Clyburn's father was also William Uriah Clyburn but I am currently working on those details. If I find out anything further, I will check back to see if anyone has read this since the original post was several years ago!!!

Bill U Clyburn's father was actually named Colonel Frank Clyburn, not Charles Frank. He was named after his grandfather William Uriah (the first "Bill U") Clyburn's half-brother, Thomas Franklin "Frank" Clyburn, who was a Confederate officer and reportedly the youngest colonel in the rebel army. It was said that Frank hated his name and always referred to himself as C. Frank Clyburn. Please reply for more details.

Hello Iris;

I am your distant Cousin. I am also a direct descendant of Jacob "Jake" Clyburn; one of his many daughters - Mary J. Clyburn - was my G-Grandmother. She married my G-Grandpa Henry Foreman. I know that Jacob had a lot of children and was a wealthy man.

I found your email at Ancestry.com and want to know if you have further information about him and his wife. I believe he was married twice. From my research, Jake married Nancy McCaskill, Mary J.'s mother.

Do you know where he is buried? I am trying to construct my family tree. I would appreciate it if you can enlighten me about our forefather and his family. Thanks.

Love, your Cousin,
Paulette
