My ggggrandmother was Ada Clyatt Reeves. According to her death certificate, she was born in Childersburg – Talladega County, Alabama May 8, 1882.
I have a marriage certificate stating that she married H.G.Reeves (Harrison Groce) March 12, 1899 in Talladega County at the home of her father.
They had 2 daughters, Katie Belle born 1901 in Childersburg, and Alice born 1902.
Harrison Groce Reeves died before 1910, and Ada remarried William Cole. They are in the 1910 Shelby county Census. According to that census, both her parents were born in Alabama.
Ada’s death certificate Has the name C.B. Clyatt listed as her father, and DK ? as her mother.
I can’t find a Clyatt/Cliett in the 1880 Alabama census with those initials.
I did find H.J. Cliett (Henry Jonathan) in Talladega in 1880 with a daughter, Ada , age 5. I thought this might could be my Ada, even though her age would be off according to her death certificate.
But I believe this Ada Cliett is listed in the 1900 Jefferson County census as a border in the household of her cousin, Albert Wynne and she was single.
This could not be the right Ada, as mine was married to H.G. Reeves in 1899.
I cannot find Ada Reeves nor H.G. Reeves in the 1900 census.
Does anyone have any clue as to who was the father of Ada Clyatt? Do you know of any Clyatt living in 1880 with the first initial of “C”?
Also, we have always been told that Ada was full blooded indian. Has anyone come across an indian connection with the Clyatts?
