Cluchey or Cloutier Surname

My grandmother was Eva Mary Cloutier. Her parents were Francois (Frank) Cloutier and Virgina King. As far as I can determine, Eva was born in Tomahawk, WI. Jan. 15, 1887.
Apparently the family name was changed over the years (in Wisonsin) to Cluchey or Clutchey.
My grandmother Eva married Dolor (Dollard) Turcotte of Grand Forks (Devil's Lake) ND and later the family moved up to Saskatchewan, Canada, where my mother, Rhea Turcotte was born. Eva and Dolor had 7 children - 5 sons and 2 daughters. I have not been able to find any information about Eva, although I was very close to her when she was alive - she died in Saskatoon, Sask., Canada in 1959.
I understand that there are still a number of relatives in Wisconsin, but since the spelling of the name has changed, I have been unable to locate them. Can anyone help. Thank you.

I just wanted to reply and let you know that the surname spelling of Cloutier is a first to me, I have seen it spelled many different ways. Back in the early 1800 when the census takers came by many of the husbands were never home and many of the wives couldn't spell. That is what happened in Michigan with my G Grandfather Paul Cluchey, who came from Northern New York and/or Southern Canada in the mid 1800's. Thanks for listening. Terry Cluchey

My maternal grandfather was Louis Cluchey. He lived in Michigan and Illinois (Chicago) where his father's family had a fleet of boats. They were deep sea divers. He had four children by his first wife, Daphne, (my grandmother), no children during a 2nd marriage, and several children during a 3rd marriage during which he lived in Southern California.
My grandfather died in th '60s. I don't know whether there is any connection between these two families but am interested to know whether you've heard of a Louis Cluchey.

My mother's maiden name Cluchey. Father was Julius Cluchey, grandfather was Henry. Louis Cluchey would be her father's first cousin. Lived in Muskegon(?) Michigan, originally from Pentwater area.

Jane,
I understand there is an annual Cluchey Reunion in Pentwater every summer. Do you attend It?

My grandfather's first was Caroline Cluchey. She had a brother, Louis, born 1849, in New York. Another brother, Michael Olin, had a marine service out of Pentwater, Michigan, and Michael had a son, George, who was a hard-hat deep sea diver. George dove on the construction of the Mackinac bridge in Michigan. Interesting, but maybe no connection.

My grandfather's first wife was Caroline Cluchey. They were married in Pentwater, Michigan. Louis, it appears, is Caroline's brother. And Henry Louis is the son of Paul Cluchey, right? And Granddad, Andrew Maule, and his wife, Caroline Cluchey named their first son, Louis Henry.

The Cluchey family reunion for 2005 will be in Pentwater on June 25, 2005. I plan to be there. It is potluck. Some of the family have great pictures and newspaper clippings.

My grandfather's name was Louis Olin CLuchey and his father owned a fleet of boats that plied the Great Lakes. They also did deep sea diving and, I understand, laid most of the under water cables to electrify the Chicago waterfront. They must be connected in some way.

Hi Pat,

Do you have any other info on Louis Olin? like birth year? or birthplace? Children? Wife? Like I posted on the message board before, there will be a Cluchey reunion in Pentwater in June and I plan to attend. I could take the info and discuss it with other family members. If you want to contact me privately, my email is tug2@ejourney.com.
