We are researching the Kermode family. We have a Daniel Kermode, born IOM about 1838, married in England, and emigrated to Ohio then to St. Louis, MO. He was a carpenter/joiner and had 5 daughters who all died in St. Louis, MO. Searching for Daniel's family. Wondering who this Daniel Kermode is that is living with CLUCAS family and how they are connected.

I show Herbert's father as Edward Freer Clucas I who died two months before Herbert was born. Herbert as the youngest of nine children.

Edward Freer Clucas I b 12 Nov 1839 Lower Ballaclucas d 28 May 1882 Braddan.

m Frances Jane Cottier

I don't show Frances remarrying. She was shown as still being a widow in the 1891 census.

I have Herbert's pedigree as well as his family including your generation.

Herbert Clucas, born July 13, 1882,was the illigitimate son of Catherine Elizabeth Clucas; his birth registration shows him as "Bertie Clucas", mother "Elizabeth Clucas"; father portion was left blank.

Catherine was the oldest of 8 children born to Edward Freer Clucas and Francis Jane Cottier. Edward died in May 1882; Francis in June 1922. Francis remarried in 1891, to Thomas J. Kelly.

Catherine married Thomas Christian in 1887 and had 7 or 8 children. Thomas was a widower with 3 or 4 children when he married Catherine.

Herbert was placed in the Destitute Children's Home in Douglas Isle of Man in 1892 and shipped to Canada (through the Quarrier Orphanage of Glasglow Scotland) in 1883. He had been living with his grandmother Francis and aunt sometime prior to that.

Records from the Children's Centre in the Isle of Man state the reason for Herbert being placed in the Children's Home in Douglas was that "the stepfather and boy do not agree".

Herbert married Alice Galloway in New Liskeard on June 4, 1918.

Daniel Kermode had six daughters that we know about so far. They were Martha, Elizabeth, and Clara born in England. The other three were born in Cleveland, Ohio. They were Emeline Mildred, Annie, and Josephine Daisey. They may have had a son born in 1862 named James. Daniel's father, Daniel, was first married to Margaret Killip. His second wife was Eleanor. With his first wife, he had three children. I think their names were William, Anne, and Robert. His son, Daniel, moved to West Derby, Everton, Lancashire, England where he married Martha Quirk b. IOM at St. Jude's Church on May 5, 1862. They emigrated to Ohio after Lizzie was born somewhere after 1873. Martha's father was named John Quirk, also from the IOM. We are wondering if the Daniel Kermode who lived with the Clucas family could be the father of Daniel who emigrated to England and to the USA.
