The Mattie Cloud that married John Sheppard had no other spouses. I have another Martha Cloud in my file, born 1840s or 1850s, daughter of Lawson & Mary Gibson Cloud. I have no idea who she married.

Tom,

Thank you very much for responding. I will try to contact the names you suggested as soon as I finish this note. The only thing I know are Marion Elisha's parents, and those from the census records and Marion's obit. His obit has a picture. Do you have that? There are some obits available for his children and for Laura Henson. Please let me know if you need them. Some I've ordered, some are online. I am a Gibbons/Garrett descendant. Marion Elisha's first wife was a sister to my gr-grandmother. Where did you get the name for Marion's first wife? All I have is Lida E. Gibbons. Where did you get the Elizabeth Estelle? She died before the 1910 death certificate requirement in Missouri, so I could not get a name off it. She has a tombstone, but it only has Lida on it. Please share your source for her full name. That is new and exciting information for me. Lida's father Michael Gibbons came from Ireland. I do not have my data online, but I will be happy to send you what I have on Marion's family. It will be forward from Marion though. He came into my research through marriage and I do not normally go backward on collateral lines.

Linda Gregory
gregorydonlin@atlantic.net
Linda,

I can't answer your questions, but I would like to know if you know anything about Marion Elisha Cloud's ancestry. My information on his line ends with Joseph Cloud (1789-1856) and Delila Reed (1797-1877).
My information on Marion Elisha Cloud is here:
http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/getperson.php?personID=I67298&...

Some additional info:
The Jefferson City, MO News and Tribune of May 5, 1963, p. 19:
"Births .... Son to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beck, 602 Howard St., Saturday at Charles E. Still Hospital." I am assuming this is a grandson born to Leonard and Ethelean (Cloud) Beck's son Leonard (he was a high school teacher, teaching industrial arts and social studies in Sept. 1963).

Doris Beck, A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beck of St. Elizabeth MO, married Jerry D. Ellis April 29, 1978 in Jefferson City. You might be able to contact them.

Tom

Deceased was a member of Maplewood Baptist Church.

Obit from The St. Louis Post, Sunday November 21, 1976, Page 2 E.

Note: Lida Hollon (nee Cloud) was born in Bonne Terre, St. Francois County, MO on March 16, 1900 the daughter of Liza Gibbons and Marion Elisha Cloud. Liza Gibbons, b. 1877 d. 1900 was the daughter of Micheal Gibbons and Margaret Garrett who both died in Bonne Terre, MO June 2, 1899 and May 28, 1899 respectively. After Liza Gibbons 1900 death, Marion Elisha Cloud married Laura Henson and had more children. I am searching for Lida Hollon's sister Etheline/Ethelean Cloud's death date and location. I know Etheline married Leonard Beck and lived in St. Louis but I cannot find her death date, burial location, etc. so I can order a death certificate or obit.
His death certificate says he was 107 when he died, but death certificates and gravestones are usually made by people who weren't around when the person was born and mistakes are sometimes made. The 1900 census says Frank was born in Feb. of 1886 (14 years old). In 1910 he is 24 (born 1886) (born 1886), in 1920 he is 34 (born 1886) and in 1930 census he is 44 (born 1886). That's four consecutive censuses where his parents and then he or his wife gave his birth date as 1886. That means he was actually only 104 when he died in 1990.

Yes, I only remember being down to KY twice. Once I think was at grandpa's 100th b-day, and then was at the funeral if memory serves me right.

So I only remember meeting Mam and Pap once. But as I grow older, my interest and appreciation for my kinsmen grows. I would like to come down to see B. Franklin Cloud's grave. He fought for the blessed South!

So, do you have any data about the 107 vs. 104 discrepancy?

Do you still live in Harlan?

His parents were John C and Mary Griffin Cloud. That John C was born in Georgia about 1815 and his parents were Jeremiah and Elizabeth Cloud. Jeremiah was born about 1782 in Georgia and died in 1861 in Waller co TX. None of us has found the parents of Jeremiah.....he and his family migrated to TX about 1836 from Alabama.

I wish I knew more about him. Grandma just said he was married to her sister, Jennie Birdwell. But like I said, either her descendants don't know she had a prior marriage or they dont want it known. It has been such a long time ago that grandma told me that. She only had 2 sisters, Jennie and Dora Alice, so it had to be one of those. Jennie was born in 1879 and Dora was born in 1876, so he was probably around that age. The Birdwell family lived in Van Zandt Co. TX. I assume it would have been there are near there. I will send you another mail with a direct quoteof the letter. Whoever he was, he really got scammed.

This is far out. I have in my possession a piece of paper written by Will Epperson dated 7th day of Dec 1898. In it he says he has purchased a secret recipe from a gentleman for turning one lb of butter into 2 or 3 lbs of butter. This was in TX somewhere probably around Van Zandt Co or in that area. My husband's grandmother said that Will Epperson was married to her sister, Jennie Birdwell. But descendants of Jennie says that is not true. I have always wondered who Will Epperson was. Would he be in any of your Epperson family? Thanks Ellen

I posted something similar several years ago, but was never able to resolve it.

Daniel William Cloud Jr. born 1814 KY died defending the Alamo in TX in 1836.
http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/getperson.php?personID=I66238&...

The man who possessed the letter he wrote from Louisiana just prior to arriving at the Alamo was "Sam C. Slack of San Antonio", grand-nephew of Daniel William Cloud Jr.
http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/Documents/Daniel_W_Cloud%20let...

Daniel's sister Clarissa married John W. Slack. They and their children were born and lived in Kentucky. I assume Sam C. Slack is a grandson of John and Clarissa Slack.

Of all the descendants of John and Clarissa Slack I have found, not one of them is named Sam or Samuel.

Anyone know how Sam C. Slack, who donated Daniel Wm. Cloud's letter to the DRT, fits into the family?

thanks,
Tom

Rhinehart by name, Cloud by DNA

My father, Donald E Rhinehart, b 23 June, 1927, WA, d 15 Mar 2008, ID, is descended in the census records from John Adam Rhinehart, b 1739, DEU, d 1818, NJ, USA. Two years before he died he submitted a DNA sample that revealed him to match Joseph Cloud, b 1710 PA, d 1818, NJ. I have been working with the Cloud DNA project manager to find where the Cloud genes entered the Rhinehart name, possibly by adoption, by trying to locate living Rhinehart descendants who would be willing to test their DNA. I would welcome any help locating these living Rhinehart male descendants for Y DNA testing.

Mom is the oldest living. She is 87. One of her uncles went to Texas at one time and then moved back to Georgia. Some of the children stayed in Texas. There may be a connection somewhere down the line. Thanks for the info.

G Hamilton

Gridley, had a brother named John who I think married Charity Harvey in Montgomery County, Indiana in 1863. They had a daughter, Martha Ann Cloud, my great grandmother, who married William Haley in Monticello, White County, Indiana in April 18, 1893. Martha Ann Cloud Haley is buried in IOOF Riverview Cemetery in Monticello, White County, Indiana.

I'm Frank's great-grandson, Joshua. Does anyone have any data on Fannies father? Rumor has it he might have been Indian. I have not been able to confirm this, as I don't see any indicator for Indian in the race box on the census. thanks
